Exclamation Hotels in Patong Beach (current info)

Hi:

I'm a newbie but have been researching hotels for my upcoming Trip (late April). Wanted to share the responses I have gotten from hotels re: their joiner policies. I was always very clear in my emails to them that I would book a double room but wanted to know both policy and any fees for "unregistered guests".

First the good news: Friendliest email was from Baan Yin Dee Resort, no fee, no hassle. Club Bamboo and Orchid Residence also confirmed that they do not charge fees.

Bad news: Patong Bay Gardens Resort told me THB 1000/person/day. Odd given that others have stayed there before without fee so I wrote back just to reconfirm, they did not respond. Amari Coral was quite terse in announcing their fee (same THB 1000), too bad 'cause it looks nice but I understand from further research that they really don't like BGs so that rules them out for me. Baan Lamai resort says THB 300 per night joiner fee. That's not a ridiculous amount but on principle I'd rather go somewhere that won't try tacking that on (I was going to book their fanciest room).

Quite a few did not respond to my request, not sure what to make of it, but they included Safari Beach, Tropica Bungalow and K Hotel.

Any comments or advice appreciated.

Tropica

Thanks Caerphilly,

There's a possibility I wrote to a reservations email for them not the hotel direct (although I did write twice). Have you stayed there? Would you recommend? Do you know if they are indeed Girl Friendly?

As none of the nice beach hotels near Bangla seem to be real friendly I am thinking of staying some place inexpensive and close to the action (like Tropica) the first few days and then taking a "vacation" to BYD Resort for the rest of the trip.

Just today I had an e-mail from Hotel Leelavadee in Patong and they said for my long stay for six weeks I don't have to pay any joiner fee

I am booking Tropica Bungalows for August. They also sent me a mail saying no joiners fee.

If you look at Discount Asia Hotels: Hong Kong Hotels, Singapore Hotels, Thailand Hotels, Vietnam Hotels, Australia Hotels. Reserve your rooms Now! much better price here!!!

I was at Patong Bay Garden Resort in Feb never paid any joiner fee!
Very GF at that time hope nothing has changed as I have booked my room again for my next trip in Oct.
I would call or email the Hotel again. If you have any other questions about the hotel just ask.....I will try to help.

Good Luck

Stayed in Patong Bay Garden 4 times in 2005 (my usual hotel devastated by tsunami) and never paid joiner fee. Booked a junior suite double occupancy.
Also heard no probs in Tropica. It is cheaper and also on beach road.

I checked out the Baan Yin Dee a few days ago as my bm mate's better half works there in management.

I got the full tour of the place & must say it's very impressive.......*ahem* I should mention that it's not a place for cheap charlies either....Not implying you are SBFilmguy.
It's a bit outta the way from the nightlife of Bangla......The views overlooking the town at night are awesome.
The resort even has a few brand spanking new Mercedes Benz cars as courtesy vehicles.
The swimming pool is also tiered on 4 layers......something I have not seen before.

After getting the tour, my bm mate turned to me and said....Hey, it's girl friendly too 55555

Hope this helps & enjoy your trip wherever you may stay.

Thanks all...

...great information. Of course on the first trip it's still just a shot in the dark figuring out what I want, but I'm going to try a little of two worlds, first three nights I'll stay close to the action, save some baht and not look too much like a poseur. Have sent a reservation request to Tropica Bungalow (great deal, but it sounds like there are a bunch of really clean great places like Orchid Residence, Summer Breeze, Palm View, I'll scope out their bars and general ambiance on this trip).

For my final five nights I'll check out the Baan Yin Dee (and report back on the experience). Yes it's expensive and of course, meals, drinks, etc will be expensive too, but hey I'm looking for a great time and since I don't have a month I'll try a little luxury, away from it all and hopefully return home blissfully satisfied... funny thing is I haven't even been to Thailand yet but after reading this board for awhile I am already assuming there will be many trips in the future.

MTB will definitely be one of my first stops (I arrive midday on April 19th), hope to meet some of you there.

Patong Villa very GF too. Stayed here the past 7 or 8 years and never had any problem. Last visit, the room maid even offered me her friend from Bangkok who was there for a few days, to share my room with.
Very close to the action and across the road there's the beach. Book a bungalow if you decide to stay here. Patong Hotel Rooms,Hotel Patong Villa Phuket Thailand.

Have fun - will arrive myself again may 18th and can't wait.

Patong Villa

My last visit dates from this past december/january and I swear that I never had a request for a joiner fee. Have to say that I am very familiar with the entire staff and I always bring a few boxes of Belgian chocolates for them, however it's not sure if that has made the difference.

Do Patong Pearl Resortel charge any extra does anyone know ? I didn't realise any hotels charged as where I stay it's normally a rate for the room. I won't stay longer than the 3 nights I have prepaid for if thats the case.............................................

Did you take a close look at the bill for your room when you paid. Sometimes a hotel will not say anything ot you about the girl, but will just add the joiner fee charge to your bill.

BTW, if you want to be near the action, Palm View is up on Nanai, and not within walking distance of Bangla. Fine if you want to rent a motosai.

I don't mind a wee walk, so i'm hoping the fact that distance has never been m entioned means that it's not too far

Cool Bad PR

The reason some resorts have not replies may be that if they give you a written answer if could turn up in print else where.

In this country where prostitution is illegal how can places like the Holiday Inn and others charge a joiner fee thus condoning prostitution which does not exist.

I too had thought maybe they wouldn't want to put it in writing but then how come a place like Baan Yin Dee will write: "I am happy to advise you that...We do not charge a joiner fee for overnight guests." and Amari Coral (which apparently has high connections) will say "1000 baht/person/night". I know I don't understand Thailand, but trying to make a decision from afar I feel I can only go on what they say (or don't say).

Turns out Tropica was booked out for my dates so I am spending my first few nights at Valhalla...now THAT should be interesting. I will report back.
