BKK-HKT flight: book it in the UK or in BKK?

Hello,

I will be flying to BKK in mid-May, spend 3-4 days there before flying to Phuket.

My question is....
is it usually cheaper to buy an internal flight ticket in Bangkok when I get there or should I do it before leaving home (the UK in my case)?
If there is a considerable saving to be made then I may buy in in BKK, however at the same time I'd hate to find out when I get there that I should have thought about it before.

Thanks in advance

Book it online.... Thats just my advice and the reason i say that is because for the sake of the price online, i would personally find it better to have the flight that i want... Just incase... and besides you can get a single to Phuket with Thai for single 55 gbp or something.... Cheaper if you look at a few others maybe... dunno what return price is tho...

If you are not sure of the exact date you want to fly (3-4 days in Bangkok) , then I'd leave it till you get there. Your plans may change and you may want more/less time there , but if you've already booked your flight it 'may' be difficult to change.

Cost wise , will depend on which airline you decide to use , budget airlines are cheaper but less frequent than Thai.

easy enough to book flight day before, same day or even at the airport(possibilty of hanging around though)......shouldnt be a problem around that date, sure u will find one of the many airlines free.
pricewise your not gonna save a great deal......airlines like nok,1-2-go and airasia- only really vary between 1750b-2250b.so if your not 100% sure of yer dates i would just leave it.

1 2 go were doing a great deal in march......not sure when it ends ,think it was for a couple of months.........1750b all routes, which includes,HKT,CM,krabi, surathani, udon??.
all can be paid for fixed rate at 7/11...Great....i love 7/11..i never used the 7/11 service, but read about it inflight, still got 1750 deal from agent down to phuket though.

maybe more info on website......One-Two-Go Airlines.

ill add i did fly out of don muang,no problem for me,but something to take note if yer planning a connecting flight when u arrive i.e international ,suvarnibaumi

I got a cheaper flight from Phuket to BKK by just showing up at the airport and buying a ticket.
Got a really cheap ticket from BKK to Manchester (UK) from an agent in BKK btw.
Some great deals are advertised on the back pages of the Post.

what a result!!!

Thank you for the advice guys

In the end (yesterday) I thought it would be silly to take chances for probably less than £20 so I ended up making a provisional reservation with West East Travel (a London-based travel agent, specialised in South East Asia destinations).
I was quoted a fully inclusive price of £631.90 each for LHR-BKK, BKK-HKT, HKT-BKK & BKK-LHR (all flights with Thai Airways). A bit steep compared to previous travels but they were still among the cheapest options, if not THE cheapest option, considering I don't have much time (quite literally) for stops somewhere in Europe or in the Middle East.

Gave them a call today to confirm my reservation and the travel consultant cheerily informed me that - due to a very new promotion - my total fare had just gone down to £511.90 each, ie. a saving of £120 per person.

If that's not a feckin great result, then I dunno what it is!!!

sounds like u got a good deal in the end,the return flight to phuket seems to be chucked in ,as £500 mark is the lowest you'll find a direct flight.

West East are great, one of the few places left where you canput a £50 deposit down and settle up a month before travel. Great if tentative booking and plans change !
