Room for 6 to 8 weeks? Aug/Sept next.
I have searched on this, but decided to start my own thread...
I will be looking for a room (maybe an apartment I don't know?) close to the beach and action/nightlife. A/C and safety would be the only two must haves...
I will need it from mid to late July till mid September next... Maybe longer?
Budget would (probably) be around 3k -> 4k a week at the most...
I have seen on another older thread that the thing to do is book into a normal hotel for the first few days then look when there... This is what I had planned to do but I'm curious about any up to date info?
Any Information, suggestions or comments appreciated...

Low season
Being low season, you can probably find a guest house for cheap, maybe 500-600 baht a night. That's what I'd do. Then when you get there, try to find something cheaper, if you can.

You can find rooms and studios along nanai at those prices fairly easily.. Just takes some foot work..

I have a modest place on Nanai Rd... up one of the hills for 12K per month. Studio, but with a great view and free wireless internet and a DVD player. Landofsmiles (BM) helped me find it earlier this year and I didn't bother with a hotel room for the first few nights. I can sort you out if you need help and make a reservation, although I doubt it will be needed...

That sounds like what I'm after, the great view sounds good too... I would probably take it on a month to month basis as I'm really not sure how long I will stay, at least 6 weeks though...
Cheers for the offer of help TanMan! If they have a Number or E-mail I could give them a shout when I get my exact arrival date...
Right... I'm definitely interested anyhow...

I stayed at the Ferb Guesthouse for a weekend some weeks ago. Great rooms and they quoted me 12K a month. Just a few minutes walk down to Bangla, and Nanai just around the corner.

You could try Patong Grand Condotel
Mr Wiwi has apartments on the 11.th and 7.th floor with balcony.
Studio with aircon and safe would be around 15.000 pr. month ALL INCL. i.e no extra electrical bill
It has a swimmingpool but is never used for some odd reason (maybe because there are no pool furnitures :-)
I have stayed there and were very pleased.
Tell him Keld Olinsson from Denmark recommended you :-) (give me som brownie points ) :-)

Thanks for the info and link Keld. I'll keep it in mind...
I had forgotten about a swimming pool. That would be an advantage for me.
I'm looking now at another option Vises Patong Hotel apparently its cheap for longer stays and has a pool... Can't seem to find contact details of any kind for it though.
Anyone stay there or know anything about it?

Just the other day I walked around inside the Vises hotel to take a look. The pool is big and looks nice. I was there at 10am and nobody was in the pool. They have a poolside bar but it was not open so early. The place is kind of rundown but they had people cleaning the lobby and the staff were all friendly. I did not see a room but many have balconies facing the pool. I might try it next trip. The only downside was there seemed to be a little bit of riff raff walking around - you know the farang tourist with half empty large bottles of Leo at 10am...those funny rubber clogs...the dazed look. Guess all the BG were still sleeping.
Sorry I didn't take any contact details for the hotel or I'd share it. (one think I remembered is they must sell beer in the lobby or restaurant and the listed prices were basically the same price as 7/11 or maybe 5 baht more - so might be a cheap drinking session at the poolside!)
Cheers, Ro-baht

Thats another few options to look at.
I still like TanMans suggestion of the place on the hill, the green papaya GH. Although it may be a little far to walk if I was having a few beers during the day, and then going back for a sleep or whatever in the evening. I intend to get a motorbike but I don't intend to be driving it about tipsy.

Cheers Robaht... Good description (sounds a bit like my apartment on a Sunday morning 55). Vises and its Pool is still high on my list.
Anyway as was said, plenty of choices… Cheers again Guys.

Pad Mc, the Green Papaya is up the same hill as Blue Sky, just a little farther up. I don't think you want to go in the 6K to 8K range... like the Vices. I met a bar girl freelancing from Pattaya last year who was staying there, and I would take her back home in the morning and as Robaht said... there is too much riff raff to deal with.
I stayed in a similar place in Bangkok in Dec 2006 (Rajah Mansion for 11K)... My neighbors were Russian pros, Thai FL's teamed 4 to a room, and drunk farang puking in the lobby... oh, and experiemental tight-asses like myself. I had several nights where "drama" incidents disrupted my sleep. Stay at 10K to 12K per month or above in your search.

Yeah, point taken TM... Especially the point about disrupted sleep! I can find it hard to sleep at the best of times... 10k -> 15k (or there abouts) will be the budget... The walking thing is what sort of concerns me now... Either way I gather I won’t have too much trouble… I think I will “sit on it” for a while, I am probably doing too much research, but that’s all part of the craic…

I am also looking for a new place to stay (which is why I wandered into the Vises) because my usual hotel, the underrated Family Inn, which was a really good deal since I've stayed there at least 100 nights, is about to start constructing a new building. Apparently they are going to double their room capacity to 76 rooms. No doubt prices are going to jump, even for a regular like myself. (FYI: 630 incl breakfast low season last year, between 1200 down to 950 this high season - and that was a good deal compared to what the other guests were paying). Great place. Big rooms, nice little pool, no internet in rooms though.
So anyway. I noticed some construction on what I call Thai Bangla Road (this is the section where there are karoake clubs and the new Galaxy disco -- but it is the road that runs between Rat-u-tit and Nanai, Karon end). There is a place called Bromma Thai House. Nice rooms. I visited them twice. No pool but clean and brand new. They have internet in the rooms. In April, they quoted 1200 for the rooms in front (bigger) but even when I offered to pay 7 days in advance, the best they would go to was 1000 a night. Then they started to say I'd have to pay electricity if I stayed a week and wanted to use internet. The manager was nowhere to be seen and I was told he just visits irregularly. Doesn't answer the phone on the business card. Shady attitude and a pity for them. Anyway, what I should have said in only 2 sentences, is there are a lot of little guest houses springing up next to the already plentiful guest houses on Nanai road and you could simply drive around and find one that is willing to deal (if you can find the energy to do the leg work....)
Cheers, Ro-baht

Tho the rooms are not really slick Baan Ton Sai resort is about 10k a month at this time of year.. 500 a night.. For an AC room.. Probably 8 or less low low season..
Room with clean on suite.. Even a small sink and surface for coffee kit (tho provide your own) no TV tho so laptop and DVD's.. They do have a pool also..
I would say they are about the cheapest place that isnt a flop house..
