Best places for family in July

I may have loved Patong 15 years ago, but the wild days are now behind!

What are the best beaches for a family with tweens? We doen´t want to be totally isolated, but don´t need the bars. We will already be staying at the Marriott in the north for four days so looking for another spot closer to where there are activities and excursions. Karon? Kata?

Is the ocean swimming really dangerous in July?
