Where's the "Thai" in Phuket?
My wife (who is Thai) and 3 children will visit Thailand for the first time in 12 years. We are planning to spend around 10 days in Phuket, where we have never before been. However, based on information I have gathered on the net during our planning the island seems to be very much oriented to the western tourist. I'm sure there are lots of activities and plenty of fun to be had, but does one really get the feel you are in Thailand? Where are the activities, markets, etc. that are geared more to the locals?
Of course we will visit Bangkok and Chiang Mai and the kids will get some expose to real Thai culture, but it would be nice to have the perspective from someone who knows the island as to what to expect.
Thanks in advance!
