Don Muang airport?
Have read the threads on the old Don Muang being re-opened for internal flights and am now curious as to what the situation is regards transfering to Phuket?
Booking straight through to Phuket, with Thai, their web-site lists my flight arriving at BKK @ 15.05 with the connecting flight for Phuket @ 16.00.
If all flying in and out of the new airport, then this is fine - a little tight - but do-able. If on the other hand I need to transfer airports, then it's a non starter and am curious as to whether anyone knows if the phuket flights now fly out of Don Muang?
If so then I can only guess the Thai airlines site is using the usual Thai logic...!
Thanks

Wrong.
I just got my itiniary the other day, and it had a TG flight from Don Muang on it.
I was supposed to fly into Suvarnabhumi (BKK) on EK6200, operated by Thai Air.
Then transfer to Don Muang (DMK) and fly to Phuket on TG 1213.
I got it changed to TG 213 instead. (BKK-HKT)
The lesson is:
All TG flights with 4 digits, like TG 1213 are from Don Muang (DMK)
All TG Flights with 3 digits, like TG 213 are from Suvarnabhumi (BKK)

Wrong Steve. Thai Air are using both airports for domestic flights
Go to Thai Airways
Click on "Flight Timetables" and enter the Departure and Arrival Airports. You will get the current timetable to check flight numbers
You can click on both pages (Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang) for the return flights

Except the last flight from Phuket to Suvanabhumi which is 4 digit (TG1222)
Lightemups info also applies to flights from Phuket to the respective airports

Less than 1 hour between connecting flights is cutting it very very fine indeed even from the same airport. No allowance there for any form of delay in leaving original departure airport, no allowance for any time delay in flight due to wind etc or having to go to different distant gate.
However saying all that Thai fly on the hour almost every hour so if you did miss it think thai would put you on next available plane, anyone know this for fact?

Thats OK if you are flying into Phuket, but a different story if you miss your international connection out of BKK. The next Thai flight could be a long time

Thanks guys
The one hour connection is only on the incoming - to get to Phuket.
On the outward side, leave PHT @ 20.50 with the longhaul departing @ 01.10 or 01.20 (forget exactly now)
Will double check the flight details regards if there is a four digit code or three on the internals.

Just looked it up,
The two internal flights are both listed as three digit flight numbers - TG217 & TG224, so would hope this saves the airport transfers, as I will be doing the jump between airports the previous day - just getting to Heathrow!
And as you've said, Thai fly pretty much every hour. Could always catch the 18.20 down to PHT if needs be.
Thanks again guys

From International Arrivals at Suvarnabhumi, go straight up to Domestic Departures on the 4th floor (Its a long walk) Your luggage will be checked through from London to Phuket.
Don't forget that your luggage will arrive in Phuket on the "international" luggage carousel. I forgot that and waited ages at the domestic where my flight's luggage had been unloaded. If your bags are checked from an international flight, they arrive at international luggage collection

Thanks for all the advice guys,
much appreciated.
Not too sure about any luggage, just a small hold all with the bare essentials. Is all I took last time, and that did me for four weeks. Mind you the young lady keeps asking me what presents I am going to bring her - so may require a suit-case after all - perhaps I'll take her a couple of jars of the good olde Marmite, and p*ss myself laughing when the eager little smile turns too utter panic at the first mouthfull
But thanks again for all the info and all being well, might get to catch up with some of you at MTB next week.
P.S Is marmite readily available in Patong yet? or are their any BMs who may like a jar or two bought over? Will be bringing 5 or 6 jars anyway and plan to leave them at MTB for any of the BMs who may crave some. Though am guessing if I'm only with a small hold-all, they may be the smaller size jars.

If booked straight through with Thai , you should get your boarding pass for Bangkok-Phuket issued in U.K.
You will stay 'air-side' at Suvarnabhumi and just transit/transfer to your domestic flight. When you arrive at Phuket you will be directed to 'International Arrivals' and clear passport control and customs there.

NO.
You have to clear passsport and customs in BKK. Thera are 4 counters and then you go to your flight to HKT.
In HKT you only get your baggage in the international area.
The passport control and customs took me abaut 5 minutes in BKK.
From gate to gate it took me 25 minutes including toilet and a cigarete.

...and on the way back and the flight goes to the new airport:
you have to clear passport in HKT. In BKK you have only to show your passport to go to the international area. (took 15 sec.)

It's nice that Don Muang is open again, it just feels like an old friend and is so much easier for a quick flight from Bangkok to/from Phuket.
But, be aware that the services/shops are greatly reduced. Before you go through security, there is a cafeteria-style restaurant or two, a shop that sells souvenirs and limited books/magazines and a produce/thai food store.
AFTER the security checkpoint, there is NOTHING! No more BK or DQ or small shops....only an empty smoking room. Would be nice if they had just a little coffee place or something, but they don't.....
Cheers, Robaht
