No departure tax

I set off from Phuket airport on the 9th, and there was no departure tax. Have they eliminated it?

No, it is now included in the taxes collected at the time of ticketing by the airlines.

Yeah, I was at Bangkok airport freaking out that I was in the Departure lounge and I had not paid the 700 baht departure tax. I could not understand how I had got so far without paying the stupid money. It was a new airport where had I gone wrong!!

I asked someone and was told that if you had a 'e' ticket it was already paid!!!!

Will I then had an extra 1000 baht which the girl friend could of had when I left her at the hotel. She had asked for a tip when I left: Instead I gave her a kiss which was not really what she wanted at the time aao:

This came in as of around the first of feb. Depending on when tickets were bought there is bound to be a bit of overlap. I'm off to penang next week and the cost was part of the ticket.

one british couple told me in duty free shop (as they heard me asking this question the seller) i didnt have to save it as it is cancelled - paid already in ticket...
its a new regulation, i was told valid just from january or february...

Like someone said, it depends when you bought your tickets.

I paid for mine last Sept, and had to pay the 700baht dep tax when checking in at BKK. The airline collected the departure tax from me.

I booked mine in October last year so I am thinking that I'll be in the same boat as you were. Still we will see what happens and i'll put 700 baht aside.... Just incase.

Ive looked at my e-ticket(klm) and i cant see it written anywhere..
The airlines should state it on the tickets...I assume its been paid already

Quick story...Last time out i was eating in an open air restaurant..I clocked a falang asking everyone for money.
He came to me and gave me the sob story about he didnt have the 500 dep tax to go home the next day...I declined...Genuine or not he should have made sure he had it...
A nice little earner id say...

Go back to the airline website and put in your booking reference, or do a new ticket search with approximate date. That way you should get a complete breakdown of the costs, which will show whether or not the tax has been included. if in doubt just kep the cash in your pocket for the next trip out here.

Returning from Bangkok back to Denmark 7 February, going with Finnair there was some confusion at checkin at the airport, as some extra personel collected these 700 baht at checkin.

I first checked in without paying 700 baht, then before passport control to find out I should have paid it at checkin.
So back to checkin and pay 700 baht.

Then later in the gate they found out it was an error, and they suddenly insisted in paying me back the 700 baht.
I was called up, and just few minutes before all was on board the aircraft I got the 700 baht.

I bought the ticket in November 2006.

Great advise. Even though it is the airlines that collect, they may not accept credit cards. That happened to me with Air France. The agent said that the airline had to pay the Thai government after flight departure - in cash.

Besides ... if you plan on going back to LOS in the near future, keep a few thousand baht to start of the next trip.
