Did a little search for. The number of planes lost in the Indian Ocean by Sri Lanka Air is not high enough to the the first page on a Google search, so you should be OK.

Not sure if I'd want to fly via Colombo , there were problems in that area recently and attacks in the vicinity of the International Airport.

Quote:
In March and April 2007, the LTTE used light aircraft to attack the military area of Bandaranaike International Airport (north of Colombo) and targets in the Colombo area. The Sri Lankan government announced that from 10 May 2007, Bandaranaike International Airport will be closed to flights between 2230 and 0430. You should check with your airline or travel agent for the latest information about flight schedules.

Got this from the FCO website.

I flew with Air Lanka a few years ago, and the flight was fine. Yes, there was a lot of security at the airport in Colombo, but they were/are in the middle of a civil war. The plane was fairly new, service was good, ticket was cheap so flight full of backpackers, families travelling to UK etc. Got home in one piece.

Should be fine, Emirates owns a big chunk of them.

Cool

I flew with them back in 2000 and I was pleasantly surprised. I flew economy LHR to Colombo and was upgraded to business on the way back. The aircraft was new, the staff attentive and polite, both check-in and flight crew. Can't remember much about the food, but I don't remember anything bad.

I know it's been a while, but I would definitely fly with them again after that first experience.
