Tiger Airways reliability
As I will be returning from Australia via Singapore where I plan 1 night stopover (to check out the infamous Orchard Towers) in august, I fly out the next day to Phuket for a couple of days.
After that Phuket break, I'll be back to Singapore, I was considering to give Tiger Airways a try since it is just 96 € R/T SIN-HKT-SIN while Silk Air offers similar ticket for 270 €. My concern however is that the flight with T A is scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 10.50am while I have a connection with Qantas to Europe only at about 11pm. Yes, I know that is 12 hours later ! But in no way I should miss my connection to Europe or I am in big trouble back home for some reason. My question finally.... does budget airliner Tiger Airways cancel their flights sometimes or will they be reliable enough to count on them. Also, what do you recommend to kill the 12 hours in Sin... Stay at a daytime hotel in the city or in a transit hotel at Changi ? Any input much appreciated.

I have found tiger service to be fine.. Every flight I have taken (quite a few to sing) have been on time.. They are a budget airline but seem to be less 'budget' than say the air asia or nok type carriers.
I would be fine with that flight.. Perhaps look at insurances if your a worrier.

I have flown with them 4 times, and each time their flight left on time, virtually to the minute.
12 hours is a helluva big safety margin to have. I reckon you will be fine.

I suggest you use the time to go and see a bit of Singapore. The cab journey into the central area takes around 30 minutes and will cost no more than $20-$22.
Alternatively, get a train from the MRT station in Terminal 1 and the train takes you straight into the central area, taking about 30-45 minutes. MRT fares are very low - SMRT Website - Tickets Places to see ? Orchard Road - for the shopping and general "hustle and bustle" (MRT's are Dhoby Ghaut, Somerset and Orchard). Little India (has MRT of same name) for lots of cheap shopping. Clarke Quay (has MRT of same name) - for riverside restaurants and bars. Boat Quay (MRT is Raffles Place) - for more riverside restaurants. Chinatown (has MRT of same name) - doesn't really need any comment.

I have used Tiger as well for a flight to Phuket. All went well in time and smooth. They do arrive at he new Budget Terminal however. There is a shuttle bus to Terminal 2, from where the intercontinental frlights are handled.
To go to the city by taxi cost you not more than 20 Sing$ and takes about 30 minutes to Orchard Road. You can also take the Metro from the airport to the city and it takes about 30-35 minutes and will cost you not more than about 2 Sing$. Plenty of things to see and do there as other already pointed out. Have fun.

Drop me a note for anyone that needs help ni Singapore on places to visit etc. Im sure I can give some advise.
Also, much as Tigerair is a budget air, the flights are timely, planes are clean, service crew is pleasant with not much complains.

A point of interest for those wanting to book Tiger out of Australia.
Tried to book on the internet on 10-6-07 and my Visa card was not accepted( SHOCK, HORROR!!!!). Rang Visa and they told me that they had put a Merchant Block on Tiger Airways!!!! I told them of my problem of booking that day to get a special price and they lifted the ban for 30 minutes so that I could book. All OK after that, flight confirmation, payment confirmation etc. Friday 22-6-07, I get a letter from Visa telling me my card is block due to dodgy purchases!!!!! I rang them again (24-6-07), and they tell me that the letter was sent automatically when my card was refused, but reinstated as soon as I rang them the first time!!! If anyone has problems booking Tiger with a Visa card, that is probably the reason!!!! A bit suprising for Tiger to be considered dodgy as it is part of Singapore Airlines!!!!

looking for some info, its gettin close now....
flying per sin hkt and return in 2 weeks is the flight from sin to hkt from the same airport or does it leave from a diff one, i just wanted to check in case i have to get off the plane in sin and find my way to another exit point or is it as easy as when you fly with thai airways? and does the flight leave perth from the regular international terminal in perth or is it some sneaky side entrance? cheers TG2

I dare to put my head on the chopping board if you miss your flight. Tiger, no doubt a budget airlines is a subsidiary of the world renowned Singapore Airlines. In terms of safety and reliability, there is definitely no issues. I personally have flown many times on them and has never once encountered such problems. Will be flying to phuket on them again early October.
Fly with ease.

The flight will arrive at Singapore's Budget terminal, and that is the same airport that you will use to catch your connecting flight to Phuket. The Budget Terminal is pretty sparse, although there is a Han's Cafe there to pass some time before you check-in (you can't check-in any earlier than 2 hrs before flight-time on a Tiger Airways flight). If you have a long stop-over, there is a shuttle running all-night to the main Changi Airport and return, and the trip takes about 5-10 minutes. There is more to see and do at Changi to pass time, and more comfortable seating etc.

As has been stated Tiger leave from Perth international and are (at this point in time) very reliable...
The one troubling part of Tiger for me is (as a mate pointed out and he flies them often) that if you miss a flight, whether it's your fault or theirs, there is no recourse... You (that's right you)have to purchase another ticket as they take no responsibility (it's supposedly in the fine print) for any stuff ups, just like any other budget job...

Per - Sin - Per
As mentioned above Tiger depart international terminal in Perth and arrive LCC Terminal in Singapore about 3am singapore time. You will have to clear customs and leave the terminal via the front door and turn to the right and walk about 50 metres and go into the departures area. You will have about a 4 hour wait. There is a Hans cafe in the terminal which has some inexpensive and tasty meals. Checkin in will open about 2 hours for departure. They open two cues the first one to check your passport and then the real one where you check in (crazy system) after you clear immigtarion there is a coffee shop inside as well a few shops.
I flew tiger Sin-Per-HKT-Sin-Per and all flights were on time. I also spoke to an Australian Customs person yesterday and they said Tiger have been very reliable.

Went to Perth 2 months ago and used Tiger. I booked online 3 weeks in advance and got a bargain price of 15,400THB inc tax etc. The service was excellent the transit times between flights was not too long and no complaints. the worst part of the trip was Perth customs and immigration what |
