Hi everyone, it's been a long time

, I'll be in Phuket from 16th-28th December and decided to stay at Ferb Guesthouse near the market. Today I've an email from the guesthouse asking for 50% deposit. I've never had to pay this before, is this common practice now in Phuket? Also if I am to pay it would appreciate some more opinions on the place that what is within the Guesthouses/Hotels review thread

The reason is that he got a lot of no-show last high season, and thats a bad thing when he say no to other booking requests and end up with empty rooms.

So most hotels require a deposit these days. I am going to pay coming days for my dad who booked Poppa palace next year.

Yes it is now normal to pay a big chunk up front - especially in December.No shows mean that a room goes empty which is bad news for the owners.

Bernt who runs the place is a nice guy. His place is very clean and has a reputation for good food. I don't think you'll have any problems staying there. His fresh bread is great as well!

can only add that it is a great and well priced little guest house with excellent staff where you will be well looked after.......it is well worth staying in so give it a shot....most places are asking for deposits for Xmas peak season these days
