Patong Merlin Hotel

Hi BM's,

Just about to book accomadation for September. We are considering the Patong Merlin Hotel and I am just looking for some reviews please.

I have stayed at the Impiana Cabana before and was totally satisfied but looking for something a little cheaper this time. I am not looking for a guest friendly resort.

Thanks 007

The Patong Merlin is ok, has 3 nice pools and just cross the road to the beach. it is located on the south side of the Beach. Breakfast is decent and so are the prices

Take a look at skyauction.com. (Asia) The Absolute Sea Pearl Beach Resort is available usually for $1.00 plus $195.00 U.S. taxes (deluxe room) for a 7 night stay up through October. I just looked and someone has a bid of $250.00 (idiot). It will be available again soon and normally never has much of a bid, if any. A really nice hotel on the south end of the beach in Patong.

Thanks for the website. That's quite a good deal. Do you know if they ever have flights on offer from Australia?

I stayed there a couple of time and I found it nothing special. The prices are way too high and the hotel is too far from the action. Personally I prefer something closer to sol bangla even if is a little way back from the beach.

Na, it's a US based travel company located in New York. So no, all flights will be out of the US. I have used them a couple of times...no problems. However you have to know your prices and take the taxes into account before bidding.

Agent 007,

Not certain about what exactly you are looking for and the level of luxury required. If you are looking for great value you should look at Summer Breeze Hotel. Just in the last hour the owner has become an acquaintance of mine, so perhaps I am a bit biased ... nonetheless worth a look.

I will tell you this: Next time I am in Phuket that's where I am staying. No if's or but's.

I'm coming with my wife this time and another couple. We are looking for resort style accommadation, we looke at the Merlin beach resort but decided that it was a bit far to walk to Bangla rd etc. So something like that. Maybe even the holiday inn?

Patong Merlin is about a 15 min very slow walk [to get past everyone] to Bangla rd . If you like your food it's good because you will pass heaps of good resteruants along the way. The rooms are good, pools are good, food is good but the service is sh*t. Too many people staying there. I like the smaller hotels where the staff can't do enough for you and are always smiling and always remember me everytime i go back.

Holiday Inn does have the reputation a a good family/couple place. If you are going with your wife you may want to consider Patong as a venue entirely. Patong is obviously the better place to party, but not the better beach. -- Where are you going to spend more of your time.
I have stayed at the Hilton Arcadia on Karon Beach a couple of times. With lady company it was A1. As a "looking for night life" person it was a drag.

Patong Bay Garden is on the beach close to Bangla. Rooms are equal to Cabana, suggest to go for a junior suite. Only negative is the food. Breakfast not similar to Cabana.
Another choice would be Thara Patong, opposite Cabana. Met a couple staying there, they stayed in Cabana before. They said nice rooms in the new part, excellent breakfast.

Thanks guys,

I definately was looking at the Patong Merlin Hotel. I didn't realise that was next to the Holiday Inn. If it's the same place I am thinking of then it's the place I stayed at on my first trip 15 years ago.

Patong Bay Garden is a smaller resort. 3 Floors only. Rooms are very nice and new.

The rates were changed recently. Certainly more expensive than last time.

The only thing i dont like is that the pool is very very small.

I forgot to mention that the deal thru the travel agent is stay 12 nights and pay for 6. The holiday in was stay for 10 nights and pay for 7.

First post you wanted something cheaper. Now you say you pay only half price (12 nights pay 6), and you still want it cheaper???
What are you looking for? Free accomodation?

Base on the rates available on the respective sites of the hotels Patong Merlin Hotel is 65% more expensive than Impiana Cabana.

Don't know what rate the free nights are based on, but often it is the rack rate which can be considerably higher.
