Diect Flights to Phuket from Europe or Flights from Scotland
Hiya
I have done some searching (before IJ starts ) and I have tried to find a flght from the UK to Phuket direct, and the only one I know who did this was Thompson Holidays. They have stopped now but they will restart next summer.
I usually fly from Manchester through Singapore with Singaporeair, but I now work in Edinburgh so I have been looking for flight from their, and seems KLM do a route through KL.
Do any Scottish BM's have any recommendations for airlines. Etiad and Quatar seem to have goos service, and BA are just
Regards

Etihad and Qatar both excellent. Always use one or the other out of Gatwick to Bangkok.

edinburgh or glasgow to amsterdam, then china airlines to bkk.last year flew with them 3 times business class i cant fault them at all.always left on time and arrive in bkk early morning.very good service and meals, always get a good sleep also, book the same seat every flight at the exits.for the price last time £1070 from scotland /bkk.the only problem last time was the fact that klm for some reason changed the flights from scotland, meaning that i had to spend 5 hours in amsterdam.that was a bummer.
in saying that,im at present looking at etihad, seems to be getting good reviews and reasonable business class price also.

I went this year by China Airlines via Amsterdam, but you can go Thai Airlines by Heathrow. There is also an option which can be cheaper..Emirates via Dubai.

I usually go Edinburgh - Amsterdam - Bangkok with KLM, so far had good flights and resonable prices.
Have also went Edinburgh - Frankfurt - BKK with Lufthansa good flights but they are now getting expensive.
Have done the Edinburgh - Heathrow - Bkk with British airways but i cant stand Heathrow Airport and try not to go there, it will be worse with the smoking ban.
This time i'm going Edinburgh - Amsterdam - Bkk with China Airlines, never flown with China Air before but believe they are OK and decent price.

Dont think you will get a direct flight to HKT from anywhere in the UK except for the Thompson ones but that will be a charter flight with mimimum legroom etc so your looking a minimum of 2 changes.
But if you like singaporeair and don't want to go via Bkk try their website just had Edinburgh - Heathrow - Singapore -Phuket £879.

Probably because its now low season in LOS. Hopefully they will recommence flights around Nov when high season kicks in again.

I understand that even these "direct" flights to LOS have a refuelling stop in Sharjah UAE.

I think your best bet is Emirates from Glasgow - Bkk great airline to travel with and Glasgow is handy from Edinburgh. Change in Dubai
Just checked and had a price £528 in October

Nearly right 55555. Al Ain is in the UAE, so is Abu Dhabi. But Al-Ain is not in Abu Dhabi. Have they now changed from Sharjah for re-fuelling?

Most airlines are great if you're going first class .......
Flying from EDI best bets are KLM (always used to lose my bags!) or Air France. As previously suggested Emirates from Glasgow (or started/starting from Newcastle) might be a good choice, else Qatar/Ethihad from Manchester/Birmingham but that means a few hours drive.

For those interested....
Martinair, a Dutch charter airline starts a direct flight from Amsterdam to Phuket in November. Just visit their website at Martinair and this is their English language website.
To my knowledge, they make a stopover in Oman and the will use Boeing 767-300 planes on this route.
The time are approximately:
Outbound: 20.40 - 16.15*
Inbound : 18.30 - 03.30*
I must honestly say, Martinair is by far not my favorite airlines, due to some bad experiences, but I heard they improved and also have updated the plane interiors.
Should you fly them long haul, then definately choose their comfort class, for an extra price of € 100 per return ticket. For the rest see the website.

Flew with MartinAir in april from Brussels to Phuket in comfort class.
On the way over no stop, on the way back we landed in some arabian airport, but had to stay in the plane (about 1h30 before we took off again).
Advantage of comfort class : extra legg room, and you didn't have to pay for portable movie player. If you book early enough you pay about 700-800 euro in comfort class.
At the moment not available, but apperently from november on they start again with flying from Brussels.
However the first time i flew with Gulf Air from Paris to BKK and from there with Thai Airways to Phuket. Paid about 700€ for both flights and the service and food was better. It only takes longer because i had to change plains in Bharain and BKK+had to travel from and to Paris by train (a shame since i live only 20 mins from Brussels national airport)
What about the EVA air evergreen class? Worth the extra money?
