Sorted at last tas1 55555
Qatar are a pretty good airline. I used them in April. Doha Airport is small and easy to find your way around. Some good dutyfree shopping there too.
I month Hmmm 2wks Patong, I week Pattaya, couple of days Malaysia and last few days in BKK? Nice opportunity to check out Samui maybe. 1 month is a good time to spend in LOS without feeling rushed to see too much too soon.

Try a few days up north, Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai its quieter than Bkk and a different lifestyle from the beach resorts. You have mountain treking, elephant riding, rafting etc
Night life is quieter but it is there.

Glad you got your flights sorted and wish you a dynamite trip.
I couldn't help notice you statement about "credit card fee"

So ... they charged you £15 to process your card ... $30 like ... to collect your money. In the US I report any merchant who try to pull a shenanigan like that to Visa or MasterCard.
This is from the Visa web site:
Quote:
Minimum Purchase
Visa merchants are not permitted to establish minimum transaction amounts, even on sale items. They also are not permitted to charge you a fee when you want to use your Visa card.If you run into a problem like this with a merchant, please notify the financial institution that issued you your Visa card. These institutions have access to the appropriate Visa rules and regulations and can help you document and file your complaint. You'll find their address and/or telephone number on your Visa statement. Their telephone number may also appear on the back of the card itself.

Quite normal to get charged a fee to use your credit card over here in the UK MrDK.
But I think £15 is a bit steep, who did you book it with tas 1, Qatar direct or an agent?

Agreed. Quite often there is a "processing fee" charged by the vendor, usually 2%, for using a credit card, especially using an agent for flight tickets.
IIRC, I was charged £5 on a ticket total price of £2450 with Expedia.

I was charged 2% on the total which was something like £667 , so its about 13 pounds i was just rounding up the numbers !!!
Yes its steep but it allows me to default of payment for the time being .

Expedia and other travel agencies charge a fee for processing, regardless of payment method. In the US that is $5 IIRC. Roger, if you had paid the same rate as Tas you fee would have been £55. I just don't understand how consumers accept that.
In the US there is a big push by Credit Card companies to make plastic easier than cash. In many places if you purchases less than $25 you just swipe the card and go ... no PIN ... no signature.

Not all travel agencies in the UK do that. I just booked some tickets from UK - Dublin with ebookers, no fee for using debit card.
I wouldn't have accepted that fee either (£55).Maybe Expedia was a fixed fee? Tas was charged around 2%

No chance of that yet in the UK. Too much fraud. Even the smallest amount on a credit card means using pin no.

If you have already done a fair bit of LOS, then there is no reason why you shouldn't visit the Issan is there. Ideal opportunity again and has to be more relaxing than Pattaya 5555. I'd do it just for the experience.

For US$200 more you can go Thai Airways non-stop JFK-BKK in premium economy (US$1556.44). Much more leg room and recline and a bit wider seats than normal economy. The service is also better in premium economy. In short it is half way between business class and economy. Non-stop fight is "only" 17 hours. IMO a far better deal.
