manchester via Iran to Bangkok

Hi all , went to Thailand in January and really enjoyed it , was hoping for some help payed £457 for 1st jan - 18th jan.
Now were looking at going 22 dec - 11th jan and cheapest can find is £840 via abu dabi except the title flight for £470 but... read bad reviews regarding this flight.Bascially hoping for peoples experiences if they have been on the same flight is it worth the paying the £370 extra to go with a excellent airway like eithad ( went with these last time )
booked it with statravel last time.

we are english males all 22 years old ( 3-4 of us ) will the Irainian airport staff purposely pick us out to put us in the room and put rubber gloves on

also do you need a visa to stand in the airport think its £70 ish ?

If you are only transferring, then a visa isn't necessary. You don't leave the airport.

As for the flight, depends if you want the hassle of going via Tehran really.
Is it worth it to you to save the extra cash. Your decision in the end, despite what we say here.

Myself.................no way 55555

Well never having been to Iran, I wouldn't like to say how you will be treated. But I wouldn't expect any problems really. As long as you behave, are respectful to their culture, and don't expect to get alcohol in the airport, all should be fine.

Have you had a look on any of the booking sites in this sticky for alternative flights with better prices?

id try and save some more money and fly with etihad.

me and my mate left it late xmas 05, our choices were well limited and i basically asked the same question as you to the forum.

we ended up paying £825 with china eastern (shite) instead of about £500 flying with uzbekistan airways

save the dough and fly with etihad.

Personally I would avoid Iran. Short memories of what happen to those 15 sailors. The relationship between the governments might change in next 5 months. That could screw up your vacation by not finding alternative flights during a peak travel period.

Your makign a big deal about Iran Airport ?? And comparing transit in an airport to soldiers in disputed border zones !! your nuts..

My buddy just a did a months contract in Iran.. Said the country was a dump but the people friendly.. No problems, walking streets, working there etc etc etc.. Even met the gnome pres !!

Far more of interest is which airline is it ?? Whats the transit time ?? Stuff like that.

BBC NEWS | Business | UK removes Iran airline's licence

no choice anyway...

The UK has suspended Iranian airline Mahan Air's operating permit on safety grounds, the Department for Transport (DfT) has said.

What did happen to those sailors?

Yes I remember now. They got arrested for entering Iranian waters, one of them got the piss taken out of him for looking like Mr. Bean, then they returned and made a nice packet selling their stories to the papers.

The hell those sailors went through would move even a veteran of the Japanese death camps in WW2 to weeping in sympathy.

You must be joking.
I am sure the few that survived Japanese camps would have signed for a relaxing holiday in Iranian hands.
You better check Kanchanaburi and suroundings, or the US military cemetary in Manilla where you can find those who didn't make it in the Bataan Death Walk.

Agree, if i had the choice i'd rather of spent the time captured in Iran doing sod all in an air-conditioned room than doing grueling death marches in the Philipines or Thailand.

OK, I got it. My mistake, you are correct.
