anybody got any experience of doha airport?
i got a 3 hour wait there and heard it is a bit of a ropey old joint.
so are there any decent food and beverage options?

I can only say the 'Premium Terminal' (I flew C class) building is ok, even get a real beer and good food. Just remember to get off at the right building and not the main terminal where the crowd are.

There is not a lot there, but sufficient for a short stopover whilst changing flights. I don't think there is a place selling beer for you Steve, but I could be wrong.

There is nowhere in Doha Airport selling beer that I have seen. Its a small, clean, easily laid out airport on two floors. Not many gates, and duty free in the centre of the ground floor.
There is a cafeteria on the ground floor seLling snacks and cheapish drinks.
Upstairs is a "Costa Coffee" shop with plentiful seating and a view over the runways. There's also an internet room, but not sure of the price.
Toilets both on 1st and ground floors.

Overall, not much to do, but 3hrs isn't long to wait there IMO.

I think Steve is another one of us "cattle class" travellers, and will therefore disembark at the main terminal.

Just been thru there - Doha is ok .... some decent deals on electronics and haggle with them.

No alcohol as said ... its seems a pretty conservative country and lots of full arab gear wearing men and woman to remind you where you are.

Its a bit annoying that they screen you entering the Terminal Building - WTF for?? - after all the screening to get on any flight these days !!

One good thing on 2nd floor is free internet (for 10 mins) - look for the Samsung booth and there are about 10 terminals there.

Thats one of the benefits of being an expat in a shit ole 3rd world country... u can buy C class for long haul flights same as a UK guy pays for cattle class. My last trip cost me US $1,300 Tripoli-Doha-BKK return... I even got champagne on the tarmac at Tripoli airport.... no way would BA do that...

Some are SirG - I used to go out on the piss with a Muzzie girl at Uni - she was great fun.

Think sometimes have to be thoughtful that not all Muzzies are radical maniacs who want to blow up the world - MOST are pretty sane and sensible.

Not suggesting that they are all radical maniacs.

Just agreeing with you that ''conservative'' is an appropriate word to use considering the drinking laws in Muslim countries.

Conservative means many different things.. Sat smoking dope at dawn is not something you would normally associate with conservative ?? Also the image of religious zealotry where we are all infidels is totally contrary with the fun and humour of my experiences with N African Arabs.. I still say theres much more that makes us the same than makes us different !!

I will concede that African and Arabian (and in there you can make Muslim a common denominator) treat their women like cattle.. Thier society is one where men rule, women work, and they have some attitudes that make me uncomfortable.. But they are not that much more extreme that things like Chinese daughters or Thai sin sot..

Right now my old fella is living in the Atlas mountains with his old pirate buddies.. They are not so fundamentally different from us that we are on other sides of a war, this is what Fox news wants you to think.. Yes its another cultural divide, but it seems to me people (powers that be) are dividing us..

Perhaps you'll meet some conservatives in November when you get to the airport ?

doha airport

If you travel business clas can you have spirits in the lounges,if not only junk food and cofee, cookies and soft drinks,no alcohol
In the terminal that is only for ecomomi travelers is it only two junk food
outlets, one cofeebar with cookiesjust outside the tax free store, and one
with junk food and soft drinks in second floor.

In the new terminal witch is only for business and first clas travelers you can have more decent food and drinks

This was how it was last year. Can have changed in the old terminal since
a new one have been raised and they have mooved the business lounges
.
