1000 Extra Rooms in Patong

Hi

I was reading the Gazette this weekend and there are an extra 1000 rooms planned for Patong in the High Season with new hotels coming on line.

Jungcelyon and other are planned but I just wonder what that will do in terms of high season prices.

Will it mean that there are more rooms availabe so the prices will come down or will it mean more upmarket hotels pushing the prices up.

REgards

Drew

Seems to be 4 big developments that will provide the bulk of the extra rooms...all look upmarket....the hotel in Jungceylon; the big Mercure Hotel on RatUThit up past Shakers; a new one right on the beachfront next to the Immigration Office and there's a huge one going up at the north end of the beach road past the Graceland resort.

Also a lot of new guesthouses in Patong, only at the end of Sansabai is maybe 10 more guesthouses opening, and all the new ones between jungceylon and Nanai is a lot of them. Many new fresh rooms available so the general price of Patong should be down.

Must have been about 15 new guesthouse opened in nanai the last 6 months with about 10 more being built also. not including the ones near the baanzan market cut through.

There also a new Ibis hotel being built, 1/2 way finished now, near andaman beach suites, thats 260 rooms.

Noticed tonight when passing the new guesthouses at the end of San Sabai, Jennys is back down to 500 baht per night and the one a couple doors up from there is now 400 baht per night. Not 5 star but the rooms and place look quite clean, suppose its new so should be.

Won't beat Bills place for ambiance though!!! gotta say that last couple of times I've seen him he's even bought me a beer, reckon might of just timed it right with his lottery win or something similar.
