I'll praise the Poppa Palace...as they gave me a great welcome, friendly stay and great goodbye in my recent stay. For 1000 bhat a night no taxi fares and a slightly weird breakfast arrangement everything was good, clean and organised.
Had 2 rooms during my split stay go for a 4th floor room looking towards the south as these have a bigger balcony (2nd and 3rd floor only space for 1 person) and an interesting view of patong skyline.
Rooms were under going minor painting maintenance during June/July so they try to keep up the standards

Peanuts or not George, its the principle of being quoted one price, and charged another.
Would you go back to a restaurant that quoted £5 for a meal, then demanded £8 when you went to settle the bill? I don't think so.

I would however recommend you BOOK your room at the quoted price.
Just asking but no booking, the price is not guaranteed quote/price. It can change. E.g. somebody sends an email in April asking for a room in July, they reply 500 baht but no booking is made.
In June the hotel revise their price list and change to 800 baht.
Customers who booked will still get the old price (500) while walk-in pay accordingly to the new price list.
However, in any case, if you are just a walk-in guest, I find it strange you dont ask for the current rate and/or the hotel staff dont tell you???
The hotel(s) always tell me the rate when I walk in and ask for a toom with no reservation.

I have never disagreed with this, just stated that I have not had any problems whilst staying there. However, I disagree with some comments made about the noise and location and I still maintain that that it is irresponsible for anyone to make comments about a hotel on a public forum, when they have not even stayed there.

Yes, there does appear to be a real problem with the booking process etc and there is no way anyone can be 100% confident after hearing all these stories...

Talbotman
after reading through the thread this is my final words on the kn
first of all i will state here and now i absolutely love the place fantastic rooms/nice pool area/cheap food and drink at the pool/not to far from bangla road in all the rsorts i visit in los once i find a good place to stay then i stick to it on all my trips hence thippurai city huahin/samui laguna in lamai beach/honey hotel or nana hotel in bangkok/secrets in pattaya . on my first patong visit i stayed at the expat hotel and i liked it apart from the pool area being overgrown with tees and bushes, meaning that after the rain (and there was a lot) you had water constantly dripping on you all day.
i was recomended by dizbuster to stay at kn so booked for july 2006 on my first stay there it could not have been better excellent room on ground floor 4 steps away from the pool PERFECTION . but then on my march 2007 visit a different story. ok i am not stupid i do know that probably 90% of guests making a reservation will ask for a poolside room so sometimes you wont be lucky ! but to travel for 11 hours from scotland and then 3 hours by plane and taxi from bangkok to be told we have no rooms is unacceptable to me . we finally got rooms my room was on the 3rd floor which i could just about tolerate ! but believe me if my room had been on the 5th floor i would have walked away there is no way that i am coming to thailand to climb up 10 flights of stairs evry time i want to go to my room my mate when he came down in the morning did not return to his room until about 7pm because of the climbing stairs involved.
in my room which was overlooking the pool i have to say that the noise was not a problem to me , but i can confirm that the noise in dawseys room was terrible the builders started using power tools at 7.30am every day now the kn is not alone in this most hotels out of season will do building and repair works i had it at expat also until my mate told the builders he was going to stuff their drills up their a---e if they started work before 11am.
as i said i will not recomend the kn to anyone else simply because of the booking and reservation problems personally myself if i am going to patong at songkran /loy kratong or december 10th till january 10th i will not stay there because they cant be trusted at busy times to reserve your room but i plan a stay in patong in june or july 2008 so will probably stay there then because they dont seem to be so busy then and most people have had no problems with rooms.
as i said i really dont want to slag the kn off because its a great place apart from the crap reservation system .
maybe diz you could do Nid a favour by printing this thread off and actually showing it to her if she could see how people are saying and thinking about her booking practices she might do something about it because Nid is actually a very nice lady (a bit dippy ) my friend paul who was with us (dawsey will 2nd this) he was well drunk from 1st light until darkness and sometimes his manner can become aggressive if he is not getting understnding from staff well she handled him brilliantly never had any problems with him (i would have kicked his ass on several occasions )

They do have 450 Baht rooms but you have to be a hansum maaaan like me to get them! I see Nid, give her the 'special' wink, turn three times and click my heels together whilst wearing my thong and get the short time room over the road from the hotel in another building.
Aircon rattles like a b4stard and the floor is usually still sandy from the last people and the towel is a bit small to cover my big spotty ass! But hey! 450 Baht or a ride over the 'hill of doom' (according to some posts) after a night on the lash!
Good cup of coffee, dip in the pool and back to Kamalalala in daylight.
Jennys place at the end of San Sabai is still knocking out her new looms at 500 Baht but I am guessing that will rise as high season approaches.
If all else fails, give Bill a shout at the Summer Breeze for 750 Baht. I enjoyed a couple of nights there recently when a couple of the lads from Iraq came down with thier girlfriends for a short break. Great hospitality as usual from Bill.

Thanks Dawsey, i've never really considered the Jintana but gave it a look and emailed them, however it is full for mid april - early may. I definately need a pool as sometimes just falling into it is the only way i can wake up in the morning

K&N, in my limited experience, is run by cretins. Being told at 8pm, after a long and dusty trip, that they have never heard of you when your buddy is staying there and has personally booked you in is not a great start to the Patong leg of your trip. The place is off my list big time.
Poppa Palace managed to screw up a booking for the same trip too, it will be a cold day in hell before I think about staying there as well.

A perfect example of non communication with the owner, who I reserved a room with for you, and Nid ,his wife. Until they get a proper booking system in place, with a good confirmation email to follow up, they will continue to have these gripes.
What I find more amazing, is that the German guy apparently used to have a hotel biz in Bangkok prior to moving down to Phuket. I wonder how that hotel fared with bookings.

I must be special !!
Yesterday morning I sent an email to knphuket@hotmail.com asking if they had a room available for my next visit.
Funnily enough, I got a reply from them today, confirming the dates were available and a room has been reserved.
I must be soooooooo special as I seem to be the only person who gets a reply around here !!

I think you have to take into account that hotel rooms are aplenty this time of the year Diz.
Maybe KN have got their act together at long last, after having had too many complaints of rooms being reserved, confirmed, and then upon turning up there isn't one
Whatever, I'm glad to see you got this response from what is basically a good hotel, let down in the past by poor management.
At present though, I still wouldn't chance a booking of more than one room during High season being available when I turned up. Too much hassle for me after a long trip to be met by that kind of nonsense.

You havn't seemed to read this thread at all Diz. It was not getting email confirmation that was the problem, Dawsey got loads of those, to the point he was concerned and I popped in for him. They confirm verbally that they had booked the rooms for him to me and wrote them in their diary as they were not on the computer nor in the diary, even after confirming by email to him everything was booked.
I double checked thay had put the booking in the computer system because Nid could not use it and her sister was out. Yep they confirmed a second time to me that it was all done, poolside rooms, all together.
Dawsey gets here and no booking, squeezed into different rooms than those confirmed and on all different floors. And everything the same for Tommy, so lets hope your booking goes through smoothly, lets hope they might have improved things there, but not quite time for sarcasm just yet. And if they do get your booking done smoothly and efficiently, I'm pleased, but can you just realise how sad it was for Dawsey and his family??

I have read it and I fully understand what people have said - I think the problem lies with the fact that you just do not want to listen when I say "I have never had a problem !!"
That should be simple enough to understand

Glad you have read it and now it should also be simple for you to understand that I did have a problem for two members here and so have a number of other people.
I have no personal grudge against any hotel but admin here on the island does not seem to be Thai peoples strength.
I'm glad you have not had any problem, just a shame no one else has posted on this thread concurring your experiences with regard to the admin of this this particular hotel.
Diz if you like this hotel that is good and if others post they have had admin problems then that is also okay. To get personal reports is beneficial to the board surely??

I have only ever spoken about what has happened to me. I have never defended their lack of admin skills and stated that on numerous occassions in this thread.
Personal reports are good - even those that you do not agree with. After all, if everyone had problems with the KN Guest House, how come there people staying there all the time ??
Surely these people booked through email, seeing there is no other way to book !! If it was as bad as you are making it sound, then they wouldn't have any customers would they ??
Yes, some forum members here have had problems, but that does not mean everyone has.
