Cost Of Flights From Uk To Los Getting Too Expensive

i just called up trailfinders to apy the balance of my flight for november and was hit by the bombshell i was having to pay £58 fuel surcharge that means my flight china air glasgow -amsterdam-bangkok return is now costing me £640 thats too hot for me so looks like i will have to curtail my trips to los to one a year from now on and instead of spending only 2 weeks will have to do the 4 weeks in one trip. in march my flight with emerites cost me £525 china air was going for £545 at that time for the prices to have gone up £100 in only 6 months is garbage . so its once a year for me from now on and a few extra trips to amsterdam and hamburg on the cards .

Funny how gas prices have stabilised (actually finally going down in US) but airlines are still increasing fuel surcharges. No government supervision so they are doing whatever they want to, without having to worry about any repurcussions.

Taxes and fuel surcharges for LOS were $60 in 2001, $192 in 2006, $292 in 2007, and they can add them whenever they want to.

TM just one thing to make you slightly happier - can be happy the GBP is so strong or it would be even worse - oil has rallied ~30%+ in last 6 months.

PS: Dont forget Baltic states- worth a trip I reckon

British Airways have just been fined £270million for fixing fuel surcharges in conjunction with Virgin Airline. Virgin did not get a fine as they were the ones who blew the whistle on the deal.

Actually i was thinking this, but not from England. I was looking at flight prices from Frankfurt, and the charges seem to be stupid. I looked at my last flight and had well over 200 euros worth of charges on there. It was about the same for my may trip.

It was in the news today that BA profits for last quarter exceeded their expectations being up 50% or so. If there was any justice that £270 mil fine would make it back to passengers in rebates or discounts but of course fat chance of that happening...

prices havent changed for me, and im in los on average every 2 months, usually lhr-bkk about 425-450, thai air, eva and on the odd ocassion emirates

you can easily get BM from Gla-LHR for £30 plus tax or even less

pick and choose your airlines carfully. I have never had a fuel surcharge in over 20 years of travel

i have never flown with more than 3 airlines to los in over 40 trips

I still feel thats harsh to say that BA are europes worst airline. I have used them quite a few times, and never have had a problem. Not 1 single delay or a missing bag. The only reason i have stoped using them is because my work use Lufthansa, and because of this i now have a miles and more card for star alliance carriers.

It makes more sense to fly Lufthansa than BA, just so i can collect the miles.

I don't know what dates you were planning on Tommy, but putting in 14th - 28th Nov (Wed dep and return) I found 6 airlines going from Glasgow for under £530 return inc all taxes. I'm sure you can get less than your quoted £640 whatever day in Nov.

Prices haven't gone up, they've just always been very fluid. If you're going over regularly then you can't guarantee you'll get the cheapest flights every time and a variotion of £100 isn't that much really. I think on one trip last year I had to pay £880 LHR-BKK - it annoyed me but my dates were fixed.

DAWSEY my dates are november 23-december 8th the problem is that when i booked my flight with trailfinders i was quoted £565 inc all taxes that is ok but then i got hit for an extra £58 when i payed the balance of my flight.

geespot the problem being with eva air is that you have to go via heathrow which i wont do the place just stresses me out major league (its hell on earth having to change terminals/ not enough bars or food venues/ when i stayed in london i used to go from london city via amsterdam just to avoid heathrow.

k2 yes the baltic states might be worth a trip ! especially as ryanair have just this week anounced 2 new routes from glasgow prestwick to budapest and tallin (estonia) already i can fly from prestwick to amsterdam/krakow/poznan

basically now when booking my los flights i will have to have the total money available to pay all when making my booking the option of paying deposit and the rest later is no longer viable although this is the first time in 29 trips i have been hit for surcharges.

I would complain about that and see if they would take it off as you could have a better deal elsewhere?

Its like saying you have a Bank loan paying it off then the bank so you still owe them as the interest rates have gone up .

Would they have asked you for the money if you had paid in full?

date of booking is the magic key

talked some hours with a friend how is the boss of an travel agency:
if you book earlier you get better prices!

my flight now in september is about 750€
he told me that there were flights available for also about just 450€ (incl. taxes of course!), but these fares were booked long time ago

It all depends on the terms and conditions . If you pay in full at the time of booking, then you should not get a surcharge.

Checked Airline Network yesterday for Manchester - BKK flights mid-September and Etihad are currently £429.

I don't know what Glasgow-Manchester flights are like, but wouldn't have thought they were that dear. And you avoid Heathrow, which is something I do like the plague.
