booked my flight via link on the site with my sisters credit card.then someone told me that i might have problems when checking in as im not the card holder.recieved my flight details etc to my personell e mail addy.i am assuming that confirmation of payment will be mailed to the cardolders e mail that was submitted?anyone share some light on this as the last thing you want at check-in is a problem.cheers

Some airlines do ask you at check in to show your credit card that paid for the flight,

Don't know which airline you are flying with , but this is from the Thai website:

But , all the flights I have paid for by CC (lots of them !!!!) , I have never been asked to produce my card.

Are you being sent paper tickets for your flight? If so, the cc owner doesn't matter as the flight is paid for and the ticket will be in your name.

If however you have to print out an "e ticket" and show this at check in, then it is possible there could be a problem. If this is the case, email the vendor of your ticket and explain what has happened and ask their advise.

i have been issued with an e ticket.its with thai airways also.i will need to check this with the ticket agent.probably also thai airways.the last thing i want is a problem at check in,,,

Don't worry if you have a credit card.

This always happens to me when I check in on Singapore and they ask for the credit card I booked it with, which I don't usually have, so they just ask for a supervsor and take details of another credit card and then you are checked in.

Its designed to deter internet fraud.

If you will not be travelling with a credit card then it will be a problem, so I suggest you get your sister to email Thai and explain the istuation and get them to email you a confirmation which you will need to show during check in.

But not a big problem really.

When I booked with Malaysia Air (web booking) I received a call 2 days later asking me to fax a copy of my booking credit card and drivers license to their L.A. office before they would issue the tickets. That was a first for me.

Nearly the same happened to me booking with Thai Airways. The difference was that I booked over the phone.

Note about phone payments; Like many airlines Thai charges $15 for assisted ticketing, on the other hand (in this case) for the same price the Premium Economy ticket went from a $200 cancellation fee to fully refundable.

I booked with a friends CC as they owed me some cash. I emailed the airline and they changed the ID requirement to my passport rather than the Credit Card.

For me same same. Since the last couple of years I always book my flights straight by using the airlines website and pay by Visa. I have used different airlines like SQ, Thai, China Airlines, KLM, NokAir and others. I was never asked to show my credit card. Only e-ticket and passport where sufficient.

But you are right, most airlines mentioned that you should be able to present your credit card to the ground staff when asked for.

When I was looking for flights last week several airline sites had a large pop up (about 20 lines long) stating that the person paying for the ticket has to produce the credit card on check in.They went on to say it is some new convention adopted by the airline industry.

I would check back with your booking people.

Upon check in (first leg of booking), with Thai Airways, I have always been asked to present the CC used for payment, with E-ticket. (without exception)

Only required for initial leg. (Not asked on return leg of round trip)

Appears to be CC fraud prevention.

after a few phone calls to the ticketing agent and thai,this is the outcome;
if i had have booked through the thai air website,i would not have been allowed to travel without the cc holder travelling also.however,i booked through an independant travel agent,,dont ask me the difference but as ive booked through the agent it seems to be no problem.ive asked thai to mail me the conversation that we just had that they will deffo accept me on this flight etc etc,,,this seems a bit odd to me!

what i cant understand is the fact that if this had been booked through the thai website,,why dont they tell you that if the card holder is a different name to the person travelling you wont be accepted?maybe they do?wonder if anyone has been caught out at check-in and the holidays off to a bad start,,or worse,,not at all!,,now that would be a b ummer at the airport,,,right?

Norrie: I work for United Airlines. If a passengers ticket is paid for with someone elses cc. Then the owner of the cc must go to any United ticket counter or ticket office and show the credit card and the ID that matches the CC. It is FRAUD PROTECTION for the CC holder. Once the CC holder does that an entry is made into your reservation that you are OK to travel.

It is stated quite clearly on the Thai website , I quoted the details in my earlier post.

I thought this was standerd for most airlines. However i remeber my friend booking me on his credit card for a British Airways flight from LHR to FRA. I didn't have any problems (that was a few years ago)

Also i know that about 7 months ago, my mother loaned my the money for a flight to England for her wedding on Ryanair. (just until i got to England when i paid her back) For European LCC's this doesn't seem to be a problem. However it has ben pretty much standard for a long time about major carriers.

well having recieved the mail from thai airways saying that i do not need to show a card at check in,surely thats that right?
has anyone else had problem similar to this with THAI AIRWAYS ?

what i cant understand is the fact that if this had been booked through the thai website,,why dont they tell you that if the card holder is a different name to the person travelling you wont be accepted?maybe they do?wonder if anyone has been caught out at check-in and the holidays off to a bad start,,or worse,,not at all!,,now that would be a b ummer at the airport,,,right?

They do tell you as you your booking the flight, I tried to book a flight for my TG from Bangkok to Phuket on the Thai site last year for xmas & new year to join me (I already had my ticket) but the site wouldnt accept it.

First or only named traveller has to match the credit card name.

i can understand that,but as i said i never booked through thai website,this seems to be the difference.we shall see what happens,thkns for replies.the sh=t is gonna hit the fan in 7 weeks if i aint on that plane i can tell you!"

Don't worry this is fairly normal. Make sure your sister has called Thai/Travel agent and asked the to update your booking to state that the card holder is not travelling - done this sort of thing lots of times so don't worry.

Thai enforce it,I nearly got bumped from a flight from Bkk to Chiang Mai last year because I left my credit card at home. Ended up going to an internet shop and getting my credit card number from my bank statement then charmed my way onto the flight.

With Nok Air this year, it was a hassle to book a ticket. They said I would have to fax them a copy of my credit card and my passport before they would sell me a ticket, or go pay in advance at 7/11. I said you have to be kidding, I can just fly Orient Thai or Air Asia. She said that is the rule. Booked with Orient Thai over the net, no problem. Nok Air is owned by Thai Airways.

Flying from the US to LOS, I was never asked to show CC by China Air, or Korea Air, but last two times I flew Eva, and they always want to see it, and told me it must be the card you booked the ticket with or they will not let you board.
