ok guys
Thai airways dont offer a premium economy class they only offer standard economy, however standard economy is 34" leg room against normal 31/32 of the other carriers. On the LHR-BKK route they operate 747-400 aircraft with NO video on demand or personal screens in economy.
EVA air ofer economy and premium economy and you get your pesonal screen and video on demand.
has the original poster considered either Qatar or Eithihad as they are offering flights to Bangkok for around 430-450 including tax in November and they both have excellent inflight entertainment
hope this helps

You're funny if you had read my last post correctly it was to clarify what WYLOS was saying.
Learn also if you are not going to be helpful then keep your trap shut, I do not see any helpful comments you have put to this thread.

As I will be travelling at the end of September the prices for the direct flights from Heathrow are the best so that is why I am looking at Thai or Eva.
Thanks for good comments.

Glad to see all these comments and opinions regarding choosing either EVA or Thai Airways for a direct flight from London to Bangkok.
As somebody who loads and unloads the Thai aircraft each day, my 'business opinion' is that you should 'fly Thai'. If you want my personal opinion, fly EVA.
The EVA Boeing 777 fleet is much newer than the Thai 747 fleet, and the facilities on EVA are much better. However, at the start of December 2007 EVA will be changing back to a 747 for LHR-BKK because of the extra capacity.
In the past few days I have received some emails with some good deals for Bangkok. From 'Airline Network', Thai are offering £429 (all in). I am not sure of the availability or dates, etc, but should be easy to find.
I've also received and email from a 'travel industry' only site which is offering EVA for £359 from mid Sept until end of March (travel embargoes Dec/early Jan, and Easter 2008), or £540 in Elite class. These are both 'all inclusive' prices.
I may well be coming to LOS in Late january next year!!!

Eva air mile programme also racks up quickly for upgrades, the 777 was awesome, plugs for laptops, interactive TV, big seats etc. I have my bus class upgrade this week from one return on premium economy last year or maybe 2, but can actually use them regularly !

one thing noted from last flight.............i booked through opodo for around £450 for my trip in july gone,it was 'x' class, which im sure is put in catogery of promotion fare,so i didnt get my airmiles last time,i've had a few flights before all in same price range but earned the miles.i was looking forward to my upgrade to silver, but didnt get it............purley for the reason i could batter the lounge(with silver card) .
i will add on my profile they have noted i flew, but nowt earned.
i feel like i been skanked in a way.

Not to be too picky, Mr flysas...but Thai Airways does offer premium economy on the A340-500, and A340-600. At least that's my experience, flying from the USA, to Bangkok.
But then, I believe they only have 6 or 7 of these aircraft.
(Maybe this thread is ONLY about Western Europe, to Thailand though.... If so, "belly solly") 5555

I`d go for Eva, better entertainment as Thai was only a main screen film on an older plane. Evergreen Deluxe / Elite worth the extra too for the leg room.
My last two trips were with Etihad and Qatar, now they ARE the Dogs Danglies but changing via UAE not your preference.

Not too sure about the new BKK lounge, but the LHR lounge that EVA use, is just the average one that is just through the first doors when you leave Terminal 3 at Heathrow. Although the free drink, food etc does come in handy, I wouldn't make it my quest (The old Eva lounge at BKK Don Mung was terrible from what I remember.). If the lounge at the new airport is anything like the Bangkok airways one, then it will be grrrrrrrreeeeaatt.........
Id just base it on the superior aircraft!

Thats the majority opinion so far from London to BKK. I fly out of LAX to BKK so I did have all of the perks that I have talked about. I have been on both and I know where I have been comfortable... and this is coming from a guy that has been on many various airlines. Thai was my first and ANA my second choice. That being said it could and must be well different from London to BKK. In that case I would take EVA. IMO EVA was one of my worst flights ever. BUT that was LAX to BKK and Back.

It really depends upon who you work for - it is a 'travel industry only' deal, and (if eligible) you would need a letter from the personnel department of your company to prove your entitlement.
However, to whet your appetite, look at Touchdown World Travel Specialists .
Basically, they're available now, and must be booked by the end of Jan.
Some further info regarding the London flights by Thai and EVA which may help you make a decision.
Thai operate twice a day.
One flight arrives about 7am (+/- 30 mins) and departs to BKK at 12.45pm (lunchtime). This flight arrives in BKK at about 7am (local time in BKK), so you have the rest of the day to get to elsewhere in Thailand.
The second flight arrives at about 7pm (+/- 30 mins) and departs to BKK at 9.45pm. This flight arrives in BKK at about 4pm (local time in BKK), so you have the evening to get to elsewhere in Thailand.
EVA operate just once per day.

There always seems to be a race between the EVA and Thai flights to see who can be first to depart.
In Dec 2006 I used the Thai evening flight and the EVA took-off immediately before us, but when we arrived in BKK the EVA landed two behind us! I wonder if there is any favouritism in the Thai ATC?
Let me know if you want any more info.
