Beach hotels
Hi, I'm going to be in Phuket (Patpong, of course) in Sept. and I'm looking for a hotel that is right on the beach, good pool (pool bar would be a plus), GF, and also close to Bangla and all the nightlife (not asking for too much am I). Pricewise, I'm looking at U.S $90 or less, the cheaper the better. Can anyone recomend a hotel that fits the bill.

i just stayed at Baan Lamai right in the middle of the beach
although i enjoyed the hotel the Beach Rd is just too busy for me
i was actually on edge after staying on Beach rd for 5 days
here are 2 on the beach at the other end very close to Bangla
http://www.patongbaygarden.com/- there was construction going on right next to it 2 weeks agao but right on the beach
http://www.phuket.com/cabana/- this would be my choice, might be a little more than 90usd
here are a couple on the street after bangla, still an easy walk to Bangla
http://www.royal-phawadee-village.com/- just opened and looked really nice

The Patong Bay Garden is about the only decent hotel near Bangla that backs right on to the beach. It's a 2 minute walk to Bangla. I have stayed there a couple of years ago and it was OK. They did charge joiner fee (500 or 1000 baht) for guest though. It has a decent pool. Can't remember if it had a beach bar. It was nice to be able to walk from the hotel thru the pool area straight on to the beach. No private area on the beach though for the hotel residents as I recall, had to pay for a sun lounger.
I stay at the Salathai hotel which is bit further away from Bangla (say 10 minute walk) but GF (no guest fee). Has nice pool, clean rooms with safe, decent restaurant, wi-fi and is good value for money. 2 minutes from the beach. Opposite the Royal Phawadee that has been mentioned above.

yep...have heard reports about PBGR charging JF but have not had that one asked of me....always write beforehand and ask the overnight guest policy.....
Salathai is a nice hotel usually under bht2K....good value for money and 3 mins walk to beach

Thanks for the posts, all look like pretty nice places to stay. I think I'm leaning towards the Patpong Bay Garden, maybe just book three nights and if I dont like it I can always move on for the last four.
Has anyone stayed at the Bay Garden in the last couple of months?

like i said, there was alot of construction going on on both sides of Patong Bay Garden just 2 weeks ago
i would suggest SalaThai or Royal Phawadee instead
still only half a block walk to the beach

Stayed at Royal Phawadee with my group April 2007. Had a good time, rooms were nice and everyone enjoyed themselves and easy to get to beach, which is not as crowded as it is near Bangla.
Hotel is very busy no so make reservations. If you can afford the Pavillon Room, go for it. Jacuzzi tub, lots of room, very nice.
Some superior rooms front Sawidirak so can be a little noisy but did not bother me.

I would look at Safari Beach Hotel or Salathai. Both very close to the beach and Bangla Rd

The Safari Beach hotel...I'm assuming that the rooms in the beach wing are all on the beach as their website says "just step down to the beach" for the descriptions.
Has anyone stayed in the beach wing that could make a recomendation between the deluxe, junior suite, or deluxe sea view?
Thanks

I don't remember what my room was called. It was on the 2nd floor in the main buidling with a pool view. It was brand new and very comfy. TV, DVD, CD, fridge. Modern. Every light in the room had a master control at the bed. My only complaint was the room safe was not anchored. You could pick it up and run off with it. Great staff. The Savoy Sea Food retaurant is affiliated with the Safari and is fantastic. Rooms get a 10% discount on all meals.
Across the street is the beach wing.
I had been upgraded twice because my room was still occupied when I arrived. The first time was the deluxe sea view. These rooms are beautiful. Seemed like a high end Japanese look. Big bathrooms with separate tubs to take a bubble bath with your new friends. I think there are only 2 sea view rooms that face the beach.
My 2nd upgrade was in the same wing as the sea view room. Same room but no view.

Thanks Dupree,
So the beach wing is actually on the beach, right?
When I go on vacation to a tropical island I want to be able to just stumble out of the room to the beach in the morning!
Also, did they charge for your "new friends" to come in?
