Thumbs down Air Asia Xpress Boarding

I mean't to post this a few days ago...

I paid the 200 THB each way extra for the Xpress Boarding from BKK to HKT.

Flying Air Asia from BKK you need to catch a bus and all the Xpress Boarding mean't was I was 1st on the bus, which generally means last to leave!

I was about 30th person on the plane and everyone before apart from 2 were just regular flyers...... So the XPRESS Boarding is not worth wasting your money on!!!

They are also VERY strict on excess baggage. My suitcase was 16.7kg and they still charged me for the 2kgs extra!!! If I had extra bag or 5kg+ over I would understand.... but 1.7kgs over! come on.......

This is what I get for Low Cost Airline I suppose!

Just don't wase your money on the Xpress Boarding and save it for the excess cost!

BKK - Phuket is 15kgs.

if over they charge 80 Baht a Kilo...... Not a great deal but they are very strict on this!

I have UK Seamans Book where most airlines give us extra baggage. Not Air Asia!!!

Similar in to the Ryan Air preemier boarding thingy then!

When I asked the staff bird selling the tickets for £2 each, "Is it still priority boarding if everyone buys a ticket?" SHe gave me the biggest evil I have ever had.

Its just a way to make a few extra bucks for the low-cost carriers! Do they sell scratch cards on Air-Asia yet?

That's what i read on the website.

It kinda sounds like you either got on the wrong bus or all 30 people on the bus had paid for Express Boarding as well.

Why don't you send them an email and see what they say ? Too late for a rebate, but it may be down to lack of signs etc, i.e. you should have got on a different bus etc.

Hey Diz

They put us in separate lines... We got on the bus 1st and the other passengers got on bus afterwards. Those passengers were right by the door and we were pushed back a bit! We all felt the same and were talking on the bus. We thought they would have let us up the stairs 1st but it was a free for all.

It may have been a one-off I do not know. It is just what happened in my experience..... But for 200 THB not worth complaining really... Lesson learned!

Will see how it goes HKT - BKK and will post if done differently!

Just wanted people to be aware that it's not all that!

Airasia and Tiger both have 15kg limits and yes they do charge you. I just booked Bkk-CMX 1027 baht with Air Asia and just over 3000 baht with Thai. If you fly LCC then dont complain about baggage allowances, no food and seat pitch, you get what you pay for.

My post is about my experience with Xpress Booking not the baggage allowance!

Whilst I felt it was a bit harsh charging for 1.7kg (Nok Air did not charge me last year when 6Kg over!) I understand this is Low Cost Airline flying and paid charge with no problem!

Always cracks me up the free for all rushing to get the front seats. I happily stroll down to the midlle of the plane and sit in the extra space seat by the window. Then they all rush off again at the other end, only to queue up at immigration and baggage carousel as I saunter past with my carry-on bag.

See Air Asia reminds me to much of RyanAir. This is why I won't use them. I feel that Ryanair is just a flying supermarket with high prices.. Ok the flights are usually short, but I hate all that. for the little bit extra of going Thai (within and around Thailand) or Lufthansa (to and from England) I'd happily pay.

I don't use Xpress boarding...it doesn't make any difference if you are travelling during low season....the flight is never full...but during high season..do it..you won't regret it.

I've just remembered that Thai Air do something similar. On a domestic flight, when you get called down to the gate, they sometimes have a separate desk allocated for Biz Class ticket holders to queue up at. There's no perks, like boarding the bus first etc, it's just a different queue That was at Don Muang, not sure at Suvarnabhumi.

Welcome to Thailand !!

Excess baggage on Air Asia

I have done three seperate return trips on Air Asia, all from Bangkok to regional Thailand.

When departing Bangkok, the weight of the baggage was never discussed but when checking in on all three returns from the regional areas there was an extra staff member on hand checking and informing passengers if they exceeded the 15kg limit. you then had to go to their office counter, pay the excess and return your receipt to check in.

Call me cynical if you like but given that many passengers do the flightss from BKK and return, it appears as if they lead you into a false sense of security and hit you up for the access on your way back, potentially after you have acquired more stuff.
