That would be true for most 4 and 5 star hotels I would guess.

there has not been one decent gym in any big hotel i have stayed in
choose the hotel you want and just go to Patong Gym, easy to find

Its pretty expensive as i believe its 5 Star and a 5 minute taxi ride to heart of Patong

Meridian also has another hotel overlooking Nai Harn beach called the Meridian Yacht club hotel. I believe its the only 6 Star hotel on the island and is subsequently the most expensive, pretty impressive though

Would like to stay at the Meridien near Patong in the near future, but just for a couple of nights.
I dont feel comfortable in big hotels for too many days.

Le Meridien nr Patong is a nice looking place, and the private beach looks lovely. But I heard they are not guest friendly at all.

In Chalong there is Chalong Gym near Land and House Park, run by a Ferang family, with 2 visitor-friendly and inexpensive serviced apartments nearby. Very popular with LT expats and the students at the two Muay Thai schools nearby. A bunch of pick-up bars are down the road, as well as oil massage parlors.
