price of flight increase
Is it just me or has any one else noticed an increase in the price of a flight to BKK ?
i was just working my cash flow out to see if a possible christmas tour could be done and keep the wolf from the door,
but i can not get a flight for less than £850 to BKK alone and that is not even a direct flight.

Here in the States we've been hearing of airfare increases because of the skyrocketing fuel costs; it would be my best guess this is the major reason with increses on your end as well.

I just noticed that Thai is more expensive this year. I user to travel with Thai before but last time, Malaysia was 400 euros cheaper and this time I'll travel with Air France (same prices but shorter journey time for me).

Thai Airways vs Air Asia
On May 30th, I went to AW Business Travel on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 as I used to book my tickets through this agent before. They told me that Thai has promotions: BKK - HKT is now 1800 B. Ok, I booked 2 tickets. I was surprised as they don't give me the ticket but only a reservation number that I had to show at the check-in counter. I fact, it's the new e-ticket service. Easy and reliable but I don't know that travl agents also used it....
For our return flight (On June 2nd, after Nicke's birthday....), we booked our flight through airasia.com. The reservation system in easy to use, but you must carry your passport (or a copy) on you when booking as you are prompted to enter your passport number and expiring date. My thai girlfriend had also to write her ID card number + expiring date.
Price with Air Asia was 1000 B/ person + tax. Total was 2440 B for 2 people (the normal fare with Thai Airways for 1 passenger).
Air aisia has a seat free policy so you are not assigned a seat number. Aircraft was a boeing 737 (about 120 places). The journey time was 1h20. No free drinks on board (and you cannot bring your own drink & food). With Thai Airways, the flight BKK-HKT was with an old Airbus A300. It took 1h05 but the landing was a little bit rough ! (a rivet popped and a part of the roof's garnitured collapsed, belive it or not).
So I used to fly with Thai and will use it again in the future but I enjoyed the Air Asia experience and will use their services again when I'll have the opportunity.
Regards,
Bobby
PS: When I was at Phukter Airport, I've seen that Orient Thai have also cheaper prices than the Thai Airways e-ticket fares. Any experiences ?
