Mercure/Safaribeach/Paragon

Hey guys,
Anybody have CURRENT joiner fee policy on Mercure and Paragon?

Mercure looks new, I cant find info regarding guest policy on web. Rooms look nice, any news? Rates look good for November!

Ditto for Patong Paragon? No guest info on web

Also, is it worth getting beach wing room at Safari hotel. Seaview and suite are sold out on my travel dates. Only have beach delux. $190US

How is Royal Phawadee pavilion room/jacuzzi?

Hi smilindavet,welcome to the forum.

The first two you may have to email the hotels to ask the guest policy. Being new, it doesn't appear any BMs have stayed there yet to form any opinion.
Take a copy of your reply email with you if you choose either hotel. It can save any arguments if they try to add any charge not mentioned before.

Safari Beach wing is in a really nice location, but whether its worth $190US a night I don't know.

Seafox has stayed at the Royal Phawadee and can give you a run down on its suitability.

Thanks Dawsey!
Ya, im going to email them and ask if i book a double do i have to pay guest fee. Also, the friendly owner of my local thai resto said he can call for me to ask questions.
I will let you know what i find out..

Another subject- Im usually in Manila a month every year for work and very familiar with bar/social scene. I was a little surprised to see members quoting 1500-2000bht (45-60$US)for LT. In Makati I usually pay 30-40US after my BF. I dont know, but maybe its b/c im younger than most punters/biz guys in makati?? When i find a girl and bf, usually price is not discussed and i just pay them in the morning. They are alway happy and repeat customers/travel dates/movies etc.. Maybe b/c i have a good network of Mama's and girls that say nice things about me?? clueless?? But anyway, i thought thailand would be on par with manila or even less.. In no way am i a cheap charlie or want to be, or even worse, rude..This being my first trip to Thailand I want it to go well for me and all involved. Whats your take on this manila-phuket comparison?

I have stayed at Mercure in Pattaya 6 months ago and there were no joiner fee. Don't know if the policy is the same from one hotel to another of the same chain. As Dawsey said better email first and if affirmative print a copy of the reply.

My understanding is Phuket should be cheaper than Makati / Manila.. Slightly more expensive than Angelese..

Tho there is probably more variation in pricing here than some other places..

Mercure & Paragon

Hi

I am not to sure about these two.

I tried booking with the Paragon for Xmas but they just do not reply to emails, although they do seem expensive, but the Hotel looks good and the position near the beach is also good, you get a lot of sea breeze at the north end of Patong Beach so would imagine it is also nice and cool and the beach is not so crowded up there.

Can't tell you much about the Mercure as it says it is opening in November.

Look a nice Hotel though and might try and book for Xmas and New year.

Their Hotels in bangkok charge about 2,000 baht for the Xmas New year period but i would imagine that it will be up to 5,000 baht as it is Patong and the Buffalos are in town.

Hotel Grand Mercure Fortune Bangkok: book your Mercure hotel in BANGKOK

Guys,
I was wrong on the $190 for beach wing at safari. That price was for seaview which is sold out. They are asking 3750bht ($120) for the regular room on beach wing. The only thing negative i did read on tripadvisor was there are no windows. The traveler said they moved to main building next night b/c it felt like a shoe box..
I got a response from Mercure today. The resrv. mgr listed room types and prices. I told him i would have guests on some nights and did not want to pay fee every time. He stated that the prices included taxes and was based on DOUBLE occupancy. I guess that means no fees. I will confirm via phone call tonight. Their regular rooms (35sqm) are $130 (high season). They have suites also for $170 and they are huge- 75sqm with jacuzzi baths etc. I will have my thai friend call tonight to book either safari or mercure. I will have a few beers and decide on - small, no windows, but on beach- or- large suite with balcony and jacuzzi but a few blocks back from beach. LIFE IS FULL OF TOUGH DECISIONS!!

I tried to book the Mecure through Sawadee.com but they responded saying they no longer book that hotel but the offered the Patong Paragon for 8,800 baht per night

I would book the mecure if I were you, seems like a nice hotel, and it is only a 2 min walk to the beach.

Do you have a contact email for the res manager at the Mercure.

Regards

Drew

Mercure not GF!!!!!

Mercure Patong IS NOT GUEST FRIENDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thai friend called last night for me to book.. Even though they emailed the rate was for double occu, he asked to confirm. The reservation manager said guest fee was 1000bht!!!!!. She said they were a new hotel and did not want to look like that "kind of hotel".....
Maybe policy will change later. But for now beware!!!

I booked Safari Beach last night. (i sure hope they are still GF like ive read here on the forum).
thanks for feedback

I see the op has already booked a room at the Safari Beach so I will just add some comments and a couple photos for the benefit of others that may be considering the beach-side rooms there.

The beach deluxe rooms do not have any windows other than the glass entry door. I was a little reluctant to stay in the rooms because of that but discovered that while the rooms are a little dark, it really isn't that bad. The rooms are nicely furnished, have their own extra shower and sitting area just outside, and offer quiet privacy. Added bonus is that all you have to do is walk down the stairs to breakfast on the beach.

I've also stayed in the beach-side junior suite. It does have a couple windows facing out to the road but they are blocked by a partition between them and the head of the bed. A cleaver way of keeping down any noise etc from the street I think. The junior suite, like the deluxe beach-side rooms, is also a little dark inside but it is very nicely appointed and decorated. Both the room and bathroom are huge.

I really enjoyed my stays in both the rooms on this side of the hotel. Only negatives are rooms are a little dark and you have to walk accross the street to use the pool. On the positive side are the quiet, privacy, proximity to beach and restaurant, nice furnishings, and the fact that the wifi from downstairs bleeds up into these rooms.

Added bonus beachside is the little bar/restaurant right next door called the Tipsy Prawn. Nice place for lunch or happy hour if you are using the beach. They have a shower there to clean off the salt and sand as well.

I guess to sum up all this ranting, don't let the lack of windows scare you away from these rooms. If you are the type of person that has to have direct light streaming into the room, you won't be happy here, but if not, the beach side rooms have many advantages.

Regards

Thanks Mistertee9 for feedback... After thinking about it before i booked, i realized am hardly in my rooms when i travel anyway. Why would you in a tropical local.. Only will be in room in the evening. I also like the fact im already on the beach..My first time to phuket, the location seems ideal.

Thumbs up

Royal Phawadee was my best choice by far since the past 15 years in Phuket. The Pavillion rooms are outstanding with large jacuzzi, separate shower, separate toilet, double sink, 4-poster bed, etc. etc. This is really a room to spoil yourself and impressive your girl.
It is located in a nice setting (gardens), great swimming pool which was never too crowded and super restaurants with a french chef. And above all, 100% gf.
Will definetely stay there again and again.

Currently staying in Safari Beach in a Dleuxe Seaview Room. Very expensive, but i'm treating myself. It's definitely GF and in this wing there's no need to register the girls at reception as its on the other side of the road, but you can if you want to and they don't charge.

The room has an amazing view over the beach and is a good size.

I'm moving from here to Millenium, which also looks great, but a little further out. I have an email from the Reservations Manager there who says that they won't charge a joiner fee as they are new, but they will from April onwards as their policy changes.

Im thinking to stay at Safari beach when im visit patong after the summer this year.
Send a mail to the hotel and got the answer: No joiner fee, but guests have to leave id or passport at frontdesk.

Do you have anything to say about the Deluxe Lanai rooms?
Seems to be nice...at the homepage anyway

Mercure

Hi

I had a look around the Mecure at Xmas, looks like a nice Hotel, a bit out of the way but one the right side of the one way system when you are goin home at night.

Did anyone stay there over Xmas and does anyone have any reviews etc.

I might stay there in April.

Best wishes for 2008

Drew
