Taxi prices Bkk?
I am a little curious of the fixed prices for taxi in Bkk. Is there still a price that is fixed and common from the airport to Khao San Road? And if there is, what is it? I am flying directly to Phuket october 30th, but a friend of mine is thinking about joining me for a week of my 1 month vacation, and he has never been in LOS. He will probably land in Bkk. Wouldnt want him to get ripped of the first hour..
Only three weeks left now, how´s the weather?

If you (or your friend) uses metered cabs (obviously with meter running) you will not get screwed. Could argue whether you could have saved a few baht or not. Not sure where Khao San Road is, but I read elsewhere that taxi from Silom to Khao San Road should be about 80 baht with meter. So depending on direction the cost from the airport should be 200-350 baht, plus tolls and airport fee (about 100 baht combined).

Thanks Tarzan for the link, but as I dont know how close to Khao San Road this hotel is and as I remember from my visit in mid-90s, there was a fixed price to there from the airport, and that was the question. If there still is such a price? This report however informative, does not say that. And yes, i have tried searching for it, but maybe i need to practice more at that function, cause i didnt find what i needed.

Two weeks ago, I rode a "metered taxi" from BKK (Savarnabhumi), to Suk Soi 2. Cost was 400thb, including tolls.
In the worst case, it can't be more than 80 or 100thb to Khao Son Rd., from there.

Thanks MR DK. I am a little worried about him, that is why i posted the thread. A Blond Swede that hasnt been outside Scandinavia. I can imagine that if the taxi driver says "2000 Bath - fixed price", he will say.. "uhmm.. ok"

You can walk to the limoservice, but why pay 600b (i payed that last year from "Sue-wanna-boomboom" to suk soi4) when you just walk down to the metered taxis, say where you want to go, and pay half that price..? Even a child can do that...

Exactly right. Some will argue that you are better off hailing your own cab and negotiating. Based in your information do exactly as Tarzan said (even though he is Swedish too).

Found this...
"The journey downtown will take from between 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the traffic and where you're going. The closest popular tourist area to the airport is the Sukhumvit road district, which on a good day will take around 30-45 minutes to get too. Silom, Sathorn, and Siam Square will take about 45 minutes to an hour to reach while if you're heading over to Khao San road it could well take over an hour. Heavy traffic can make this journey a lot longer though, and so you have the option of using the expressway downtown for an additional charge of 25B to pay. This is paid for by the passenger, though the driver may pay at the time and you'll be expected to pay at the end. The expressway is substantially faster at any time during the day, though if you're arriving late at night it's not usually necessary to go on the expressway as the traffic is light on the main roads.
The passenger also has to pay a 50B airport surcharge on top of the metered fee. Just like at the previous Don Muang airport, it's possible (though officially prohibited) to get a taxi from the departures area which has just dropped off passengers instead and save the 50B surcharge and the queues. This avoids the official safeguards too though, and so if you're not experienced with Bangkok yet it's best to stick to the official channels. Unlike at Don Muang though, this airport is somewhat in the middle of nowhere so it's no longer possible to walk to the main road and hail a taxi from there.
With all the fees included, the total cost will be around 250B for Sukhumvit up to 350B - 400B to Khao San.
Try and get some change at the airport of 1000B notes to 20B, 50B and 100B ones, don't be surprised if the taxi driver hasn't got (or claims not to have) any change. If you do get caught in this kind of situation, you can always get out and get smaller notes by buying something from the nearest 7-11 store. This tactic often leads to the driver suddenly remembering where his change is kept."
Pretty much sums up what you want to know or?
Btw. Here is all the info.. Taking a taxi

During my recent trips, I only used meter taxi's and always was charged by the price as shown on the meter.
For short distances, sometimes we took a tuktuk. My GF then would first hassle about the price and then I would show face and it worked well.

Did the Suva to Baiyoke Sky hotel Sunday nite, where I type this. Took the advice from here and went to the fourth floor at the airport and bypassed all the hawkers on level one. I paid 500bht including his tip. I then told him he owed me 100bht for his english lesson, he and I laughed, and drove away.

[quote=MrDK;392912] Not sure where Khao San Road is, QUOTE]
Thats something I have thought before MrDK.
I have thought of going down there for a walk one afternoon just for something to do but have no idea where it is.
Does anyone know if it is on or near the Sky Train or MRT route or is it taxi only, or even the boat taxi?

Khao San Road was not my style. Many long hair dread locked traveling hippies.
I really did not find any retail attraction for me on the road either. I may have missed something though or maybe just not my thing.
