CM, I just had a look at the 2nd link for Pattaya Limo's.
It states free beer & water provided, if you book by internet.
Same price as Mr Toom as well.

Last two trips I have taken with Mr. Toom service water was provided ... a far cry from bee I know.
Shortly after you pass the first toll plaza the is a strip-mall shopping area with no less than 3 7-ellevens. About the quarter the way to Pattaya. I always stop there for a SIM card and occationally a beer.

I'll be needing one of those with a Number associated with it.
I need it to last me about a month.
Mostly SMS within LOS.
My Telstra plan is outrageously priced for overseas use.
How much will the SIM with Number set me back?

It changes a bit from time to time.
I normally buy 1-2-call and have usually paid 100 baht with 50 baht call time.
In November it was 50 baht with 15 baht of call time.
Either way I believe the expiration was 30 days after activation.
300 baht top-up will give you another 30 days.
1-2-call currently have a promotion that 300 baht will give you an extra 60 days, but you have to call the call center and activate the promotion before you top-up.
The number for the call center is on the SIM card and starts with a period "." (I think it is ".AIS Call Center"). Normally I use about 150 baht per week when I am there.

Thanks DK.
Do they come with an FNN (number)?
How much are their SMS's.
Is there an indicator warning you you're about to run out of credit?
How do the top up cards work? Do they replace the original card?
Sorry for all the questions?
by the way, Merry Xmas.

There is a reprogrammed number on the card to request balance
When you get under 50 baht you will get an announcement that you are running low .... I think you get another at 15 baht.

The top-up card is a scratch off card with a number that you send back by dialing *120*[Card Number]#.
All the instructions are on the Top-up card in Thai, but it is pretty obvious what to do. The same goes for the first time activation of the SIM.
You will keep using the same SIM card until it expires (time or money).

Meeting tips?
Normally, I just stomp through BKK, jump a cab and head for the City and consequently not really taken any notice of my surroundings. However, on the next trip in 8 days I'm meeting someone who's coming in from Kuala Lumpur on an earlier flight than me and has never used the new airport before. Can anyone give me an idea of where would be a good place to meet up once the other side of immigration. Preferably where you don't get constant mither from the limo touts etc. Is there a bar or resturant on the arrivals level outside? Or are we better meeting before immigration and coming through together? If so, again where to tell them to meet so as to be no misunderstanding.
I really must pay more attention I know, but the pull of Singha gets too strong sometimes.
Thanks in advance.

Is there an on-line map of the new airport, something like a floor-plan. I'd like to have a look at it before I arrive so that I can get my bearings when I get there.
I arrive mid-afternoon from London, flying with EVA. A few hours later I fly down to Phuket with Thai Airways. I presume that I will need to collect my luggage, then find the check-in desks for the Thai flight. Can anyone copfirm?

Re your check in question, yes, you need to collect your baggage and recheck for your internal flight. Check in on the 4th floor.
Here is the URL you need. Click on the link on the left for airport map.

Is it not possible to make the luggage go to Phuket international so you claim
it there? You save a lot of handling? I made some trips to Koh Samui and
those times, the luggage passed all the way and was through customs at this small coconut beauty. I suppose it could work to Phuket also. It was on the old airport, but if the labels say HKT it may be work?

If the airline you are using to travel to Bangkok has a codeshare with the airline you use from BKK to HKT, then yes your bags probably will be checked through.
But my experience has been unless using Thai or BKK Airways all the way through, the bags had to be collected and rechecked in at BKK. It really does depend on the codeshare.
When checking in at your first departure point, the airline staff will tell you where your bags need to be picked up anyway. If not, ask them.

I'm hoping thatwe can get our bags checked-through all the way to HKT. As I mentioned earlier, we fly to BKK with EVA, but then we're using Thais for BKK-HKT. When I go to work tomorrow (I work at Heathrow) I will ask the check-in people if this is possible.

They used to check my bags the whole way through, on both ways. I have never had a problem with collecting my bags at bkk, when flying to hkt. Every carrier Ive used has checked my bags through.

Mine haven't. Etihad did check the bags through to HKT, but Qatar didn't

Cheapest airport food I ever had yesterday down on the 3rd floor opposite Boots. 2 big pieces of fried chicken B20 each. There's a few thai style snack places along there and the family marts seem to keep to normal prices as well.

I had the same experience last May.
Flew in from Phuket and had a long wait before my next flight to Melbourne.
All the little food places in the area you describe had lots of various hot and cold thai snacks at very reasonable prices and served by good looking young thai girls.
Once you go past the customs barrier though it's a different story. Snacks there can be dearer than a ST or bar fine.
If you have to hang around at the airport hold off moving into the restricted area until very close to your departure time.

that's pretty easy...
just follow the signs for domestic (connection) flights.
you'll get a "CIQ" sticker, your visa and the actual gate.
depending on the number of people, it will take about 5 mins
your luggage will be usually checked through automatically (manage this at your check-in at sydney)!

sorry sirgeeza BUT ON my two flights from the new airprort march changing at dubai and december changing at AMSTERDAM i was able to buy both spirits and cigarettes the spirit bottle was put in a sealed bag and you were told not to open it until you reached the uk.
on my first trip through the new airport i was not impressed no bars no fast food outlets ques at immigration but on my last trip in november/december i made an efffort to explore a little and yes as crusty says there is a section with several fast food outlets including burger king and also there as he says is the bangkok sports cafe with reasonably priced draught beer and ok food
the ques at immigration were not so bad either although maybe i was just lucky and did not arrive at a busy time !
