Holiday Inn if you are just holidaying with the wife......and not wanting to bring gals back with you....otherwise it is a definite no no
You might be lucky finding something at this late stage.....patong is pretty heavily booked this peak season (late Decemeber early january)

The 'best' hotel depends on what you want out of it. Relaxation? Close proximity to nightlife? Value for money? Sports and entertainment facilities?
I stayed with my girlfriend at the Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club in Nai Harn Beach in September (4 star) and enjoyed it. Very quiet, great service, wonderful views. Maybe not what everyone's looking for, but after a busy year at work, it was just the job.
You'll probably get a more precise response Maca, if you define what are looking for from your hotel/location.

I liked the Coral Beach as well but then thought its a tuk tuk down to Bangla or JC, four negotiations a day, eventually drove me nuts.
Holiday Inn you can at least walk from, two good pools and beach road snack bar, decisions decisions, the setting of coral beach is nicer, own beach and pier, yep go for Coral Beach.
Both non g-friendly.
