Singapore.. Afternoon layover..
Didnt know where to put this, just seen theres a KL section but no Singapore section. Anyhoo..
Next week am transiting Changi.. Will be off and through customs by 11am and am due back to fly by 7pm, say 6 for check in and an hour for safety.
So a scant 6 hours from door to door.. Not a lot of time but a bit more than I would rather spend in the smoky pub there. So any suggestions for an easy to get to, few hours tourist time ?? I will have spinner with me so would do something corny (cable car I read about) or would perhaps I should just get her chilli crab (how to make a TG happy) where would be good in middle of day as I have only enjoyed the street food at night..
I like Sing but dont know my way round it, obviously its VITAL that time is kept to, cant be any slight delays or heading out of easy transit routes.

During the day taxis will be cheaper, I think the $35 in AD's post refers to the White Limos that they punt outside Terminals 1 and 2. As you'll be flying Jetstar you'll be going to terminal 1, so take care to avoid these and follow the taxi signs. 10 minutes maximum waiting for a taxi and it will be around $18-$20 at the time you'll be arriving.
If you really want to make spinner's eyes glow, head down to Orchard Road and spend your time there viewing the shops, plus there's loads of places to stop and have a bite to eat. Get the taxi to drop you off at the taxi stand outside The Paragon and it's less than 50 yards down to the central part of Orchard Road.
PM me if you want any particular info.

Reason: Jetstar uses terminal 1 not 2

theres a $5 fee from the airport about $22 each way correct, $35 at night, cost me $10 from budget to main terminal last monday night.
Taxis / Cabs
You can catch a taxi to any destination at the taxi stands at the Arrival Hall. This service is available 24 hours daily, and advance bookings can be made with taxi companies with a minimal booking charge. An Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system is operational on major expressways and within the Central Business District area to ensure smooth traffic during peak hours. So you may be required to pay a surcharge if applicable.
Travel Fare / Destination (From Airport to City)
Approx. S$16.00 - S$24.00 (excluding surcharges)
Midnight surcharge : 50% of metered fare (midnight - 6am)
Airport surcharge
S$5.00 Fri-Sun (5pm to midnight)
S$3.00 all other times

Yes, it's kind of strange how it all works here with the taxi fares and depends on the time of day.
I work near Expo which is less than 5 minutes from the airport and it's around $12 from there into the city centre during the day. Add the $5 charge your mention and the fare should be around $18-$20 tops. At night the fare increases by a certain % from 11pm onwards and then another increase at 2 other times, 12.30am and 1.30am perhaps ? Plus there's the "rush hour" charge !!
Still cheap though.

I considered Orchard Rd but only ever been there near the 4 floors.. Also I am a bit anti wandering shops, hate it.. But its a fall back plan as it would show glitzy sing..
Did a trip down boat quay one evening also wonder about during daytime (clark / boat) tho..
Honestly was tempted by the cable car to sentosa plus a look in the aquarium / dolphin place (Bee would love this) and hustle back..
As much as I would rather avoid mall / shopping, its looking like its an easy alternative.

Yeah sat in Changi a few times for a while.. Visa runs there and back same day etc.. Usually just drank in Harrys..
As I have spinner with me and its day 1 of a vacation I would rather do something out of the airport.
Tho booking a sleep in the transit hotel for the return is definitely a good one.. Always awkward getting here to Bali, long transit delays.

Do you arrive main terminal or budget terminal? Last time I was there (Nov.2006), I did not pay more than S$ 20 for a single way taxi ride (about 30 minutes depending traffic.
If you are in terminal 2 and coming out the door from the luggage belts, go all the way to the right where is the luggage drop off. Also on that side you can go down to the metro. Also the metro takes (green line- no train-changes) takes about 30 minutes (about same time as a taxi) to reach the City Hall Station where you have easy walking access to Suntec City and Raffles Square shopping centers.
From Raffles Square you can walk ( 5 min) to Funan Center, which is loaded with electronic shops.
As mentioned above, you can also go to Orchard Road. Maybe nice to see is the Takanachima Mall. On the basement floor they have a great food court.
China town is also nice. You pass it with the same metro from the Airport. Get off at Oultram Park Station.
If you want more tips, just pm me.

The MRT out of the airport only goes 2 stops to Tanah Merah and then you have to change, however it's not a great issue as the train pulls into the station between the two platforms for the existing line. The doors open both sides of the airport train, so the only thing to watch out for, is that you exit the train on the correct side as the platform the other side takes you out to Pasir Ris (NE coast). Facing the front of the train when inside, exit through the doors on the left.

Yeah, you are right. I forgot about the Tanah Merah stop. Maybe because usually the trains follow each other quite quickly.

OK Singapore residents and experts help me put this together in the correct sequence. Spoken to the skinny one and she is all hyper about a cable car thing as shes never been in one (ahh) so Sentosa by cable car is part of it. So what way is best ??
Airport (MRT system ?? Harbourside ) to cable car to Sentosa.
Around Sentosa, (aquarium maybe.. if not just a amble about)..
Return from sentosa via the shuttle train thing.
Then somewhere for a cold beer and singapore chilli crab.. Would really like a good recommendation on a nice spot for this ?? would Clarke or Boat quay be wise ?? like 2 - 3pm time.. A good restaurant and eats will be the finish to make her happy and its one I have not a clue on..
Then return to airport.. Bear in mind I have 4 - 5 hours safely max 6 but I want to be safe as missing planes isnt fun.
