Just looking a bit further down the list brings some results.

Qatar are showing DUB-MAN-DOH-BKK outbound 3rd Dec inbound 10th Dec @ £592 inc taxes.

Etihad do operate the route, but all their cheaper fares are gone. There are, to be fair, quite a few carriers but I'm not seeing a great deal of availability. That seems like a decent price though, and it does tie you into one carrier rather than having to get yourself to London or Manchester.

How does that price compare to what you normally pay?

Just looking at flights for Feb and thought this might be of interest to one or two who don't want to route via Bangkok. The carrier is Malaysian and I think the price is pretty keen.

Not bad prices Steve, but two very long stops in KL for connecting flights.

Travelbag are GBP542 including taxes for the exact same flights.

Those connection times are horrendous. Why don't you quote just to KUL and then using AirAsia...less than 4000baht return KUL/HKT/KUL and far better times.

Some people might see a day in KL as a good thing, I wouldn't personally but I like Bangkok.

If you are to fly to KL and then pick up a LCC flight you might as well go via Bangkok. I was just looking for someone and thought the price was pretty good, but as I said that's probably the reason why.

The crazy world of airfares! Put in same dates for LHR-KUL return only and it's GBP577.20 including taxes.

So it's GBP35 cheaper if you fly on to HKT and back!!

I see you edited your post to include the Travelbag price. I've said to every single person who has contacted me, and I've had a lot of PMs, that I can't always match or beat prices quoted by other agents and the airlines themselves, particularly the Middle Eastern airlines, who sell flights on their own websites at prices I can't match, or even get availability for sometimes.

Ultimately, people are free to book their flights with whoever they want to. If someone asks me for a price I will have a look, and be honest enough to post it here. If they book with me then great, but if they can beat my price by 12 quid and they are happy to book on the internet that's great too.

No, what I am saying is it's a cheaper fare to fly all the way through to HKT with Malaysian than it is to just fly LHR-KUL return with Malaysian for the exact same dates!! You pay less in total if you book the KUL-HKT-KUL sectors.

LHR-KUL return GBP577.20

LHR-KUL-HKT return GBP542

I see what you are saying. When I look at Malaysian on my system I can't get any availability to KL for those days at all, but the Phuket flights still comes up as quoted. It is odd.

Hi Steve

Sorry about the delay in replying, I have been away. Anyway, i normally fly Business with Lufthansa or China Airlines and it is normally under €2000.

This trip is unexpected so I am on a budget and the economy fare with trailfinders is about €790 (china airlines via AMS)which equates to about £550
Regards

Shanghai

Fuel Surcharge

We have just been notified that several airlines have increased the fuel surcharge, so it's odds on that the rest will follow soon.

If you are dithering over flights and hanging on for a bargain it probably won't happen now and you would be well advised to take your best price soon. Anything ticketed after December 17th will have the new surcharge applied.

This is NOT across all airlines, but Gulf are one of the group who have announced so I would expect the other Mid Eastern carriers to follow.

Hi Steve@thaib

possibly a daft question, but can you organise flights the other way also?

I mean from BKK to LGW?

only reason am asking is, I will be in los in 9 days time and if all goes well with the visa, may well be bringing the young lady home with me. Haven't yet organised flights for her, as am still awaiting the final approvals etc

Just curious, as at the mo it is looking like most flights back to the UK around the 14th Jan are full! well at least the ones I have tried.

malasia Airlines have an excellent website that you can do this from, at least to Heathrow. You may have to choose this rather than LGW.

Good luck with the visa for her to go to crapeaud land. You should be ok if it's just a holiday visa....been down that road myself. I can recommend a booking centre I've used before in Patong for BKK-LGW flights that you get the same fare from were you to try and do it yourself direct with the airlines on the net. PM if you want to know it. Beware some places add 4 or 5000 baht to fares. Recommend flying with Etihad back to LGW.

I looked into this and can't really help much.

We don't have access to consol fares originating outside the UK. What that means is that you can get the same flights I can, so an agent in Bangkok or one of the airline websites will be able to match/beat any price I can come up with.

For info, there is little to no availability in economy class acros all airlines at that time of January. The only quotes we can get are silly money (1k plus) with Thai in economy or World Traveller plus with BA for around £950. That is with a return flight in April, but is to Heathrow rather than Gatwick.

Hunting through the airline websites is going to be your best bet I think.

We did this when my wife came over, and I got Cathay Pacific flights direct from the airline office in Bangkok. I'm sure you will have options, but flights are full so expect a going over price wise. It might be an idea to delay her arrival until February

Cheers for the replies Steve/Dennisinspain/LOS et al

Pretty much how I had reckoned it would be, re flights. Plan was to put her onto the same flight as me on the return leg but having just spoken to her, things are now looking a little dodgy.

Flew her to Bangkok yesterday for what both her and I were told was a preliminary hand scan??? whatever that may be.

Turned out to be a full on interview, which our cr*p agency hadn't bothered to mention, or prep her for, in any way. Anyway after a three hour wait, she is called in. Turns out one of the questions was 'How much money will you be taking with you to the UK.

The lady interviewer tells her she has to put down something, so my girl - don't ask me why - writes 200,000 baht.

Like I said, I only found this out about 3 hours ago and am now livid, not only with this cr*p process, but also with her for being so stupid as to put 200k on the form she had to fill in. Her application stated she had 50k in the bank. The embassy have her bank deposit book, so can pretty much work out she aint got or could get 4 times that amount in 6 weeks.

I am now sick. Have 7 days before heading to LOS and am simply now awaiting the call to say she has had her application refused.

I don't really know how I'm feeling at the moment but am not best pleased. Have told her all along, tell the truth. Don't make things up and as I am sponsoring her, it would be okay to say she had no money and that I would be covering all costs/expenses for her.

Unless some miracle happens now - I can see this whole application going down the swanny....

So thanks again guys, but probably wont be needing that extra seat home in Jan after all...

My buddy had to lodge a bond with the embassy the first time his wife went to Oz with him, so it's not unique to have them ask about that. You may be able to sort it out yet.

Good luck.

For those flights around Songkran, it really does pay to book early.

I waited until the end of October for some family info, and saw the price rise by £40 in a week to £550 with Emirates

I was looking for flights to BKK from London for April 2008 and it seems the cheapest I can get is with Travelocity for £485 (2nd and 16th of April I think it was). Otherwise there's hardly anything under £500 which seems a little much after my most recent return flights to HKIA for which I paid something like £280 with Oasis HK (that new cheap airline)... is it worth waiting and try to book later or is £485 a good deal? Or are there any other cheaper options to get there (say via KL or HK or elsewhere?). I'm strongly determined to go to LOS for a week or two in early to mid April next year so all I want is to save a few £ because in the end I'll have to book it anyway regardless of price.

I will say again that anything sub £500 is a bargain and should be taken now. I said there would be a further fuel surcharge kicking in and that has happened, so you should now expect to pay £510-£550 depending on routing.

If you don't mind routing through the mid east, and my own preference is Europe, then you will get slightly better deals. The Bangkok route is a major hub for Asia / Australia and is very busy, so the airlines will not have to sell seats cheaply in order to fill flights anytime soon.

I don't see flight prices coming down in the new year, so I would say book your flights and stop chasing a saving of a couple of quid.
