Just to explain this a bit better, we only get what are called IATA fares when trying to book a flight that originates in another country. I can quote and book them, but you can probably get a better price on the ground in Bangkok than I can offer.

I'm happy to look at prices and advise on availability, but the reality is that booking flights in a country other than the one where they originate will not yield bargains.

Anyone thinking of going London-Bangkok could do worse than take a look at Gulf Air. This looks like a good price to me.

It's for travel mid June, but should be available right through to November.

When is the earliest that flights can be booked? We're going next easter (6th ~ 18th April flying dates) and can't get prices yet.

Also, do you only book through KLM? We flew with them last month and thought it was bloody awful.

We can only see 47 weeks in advance, which is normal in the industry. Airlines only supply schedules a year at a time. Give it a few weeks and you will be able to get April 2009 deals.

The system we use has availability for most airlines. I have a personal preferance for KLM because I like their routing and the timing suits me, that doesn't mean I recommend them or can only book their flights.

I have to say that I've not come across anyone else who has much good to say about KLM so you are not alone, but I speak as I find and I find KLM fine. Their flights run on time, Schipol is a good airport, the food is fine, the staff are generally helpful, they route me from Manchester avoiding Heathrow and don't take me through the Middle East. That's all my boxes ticked, so KLM are fine as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the info. KLM were generally ok - decent service, online check-in, good IFE - but the seats were terribly uncomfortable and the food was abominable. I refused all offers of it on the return journey.

I'm trying to get a flight around the middle of July but getting ridiculous quotes. Would prefer to fly from a Scottish Airport but will take anywhere if the price is right, any ideas folks?

I suppose you need to define ridiculous first don't you? There are definitely issues out there at the moment, fuel surcharges and airport 'taxes' are very much on the rise, but you are travelling in the school holidays as well and that is always going to cost you.

I can't see anything from Glasgow to Bangkok for anything like sensible money, sub £800, for that period.

If you have to go, you might consider a shuttle from Glasgow to Heathrow and from there Eva are still advertising under £500. If you could get a £100 shuttle I would consider that a bargain.

I was thinking like £900 as being ridiculous. I'll have a look at Eva, thanks very much for your help.

    Hi

I think you might struggle getting a £500 fare in July with Eva. All depends when you travel.

Yes, I posted that just for fun.

Flights seem to be going up all the time, when I posted that yesterday it was on the ebookers website, today they are showing nothing sub £700. Neither are Westeast. I've pretty much given up quoting for flights to Thailand, bargains are history.

It's the same every year during school holidays, although this year there are other things involved as well. Personally, I think the days of £400-500 flights are gone never to return.

Airport tax takes up around £200 of the fare, so the airlines have not got that much to play with; their margins must be pretty tight. Given the way fuel has gone lately, I don't believe that prices will be coming down anytime soon and we should start getting used to the new reality. I think that our new reality is going to settle in at the £600-900 range.

I do like the noises that the government are making about breaking up the monopoly that BAA have, but I don't honestly think it's going to have any impact anytime soon.

After weeks of getting ludicrous quotes (£900+) for next easter, I've finally got prices of £620 per ticket with Etihad. Which is nice.

Just need to sort the flights from BKK to HKT now but I believe that can be done for as little as £60~£70?

Oddly enough we got an e-mail today with some good prices for Etihad. Anyone travelling before the end of June (this year) should take a look at them.

That's the best I've seen for a while as well, I can't see how they can get much cheaper than that.

I'd grab that flight while it's still available Dan. Pretty good price after seeing £500+ for so long.

Agreed Jet Airways are good, I am a frequent flyer with them BKK-DEL. They fly a lot of flights out of Del so be careful it's the 2nd worst airport I've been to, the 1st being Kabul in Afghanistan
