Who on earth recommended you fly Emirates 5555

There are plenty of seats, but getting one is a struggle, as all the arab gentleman see it as their right to lie down and have a sleep occupying 3 of them. Also the toilets are great if you like a hole in the floor.....
Other than that it isn't a bad Airport.....

Dunno which toilets you were using Dan, but all the ones I used in Dubai Airport were western style. Mid you, one was full to brim and I couldn't work out why the door was open and nobody was going in. I soon came out
As for those seats, yeah it's pot luck getting one, but hang around and wait until someone gets up for a leak, then nick his seat 55555

I must have just been unlucky, but like you say, with the smell and state they were in I wasn't gonna hang around checking each one...
Must admit i'm not too keen on Mid-East stops , but with the current prices it's something i am happy to put up with..

That's exactly where I'm at with it. BA etc. want pretty much double though, and it would be hard to justify spending that.
Both Dawsey and Stu have told me to suck it up and try Emirates, so I'm going to give it a whirl...

Qatar Airways have some £309 fares from Manchester over the summer (Netflights are advertising these from £299 but from them it's a phone up only fare).

Great fares through the spring and summer this year. It might get cheaper come October as well but I'm pretty pleased with £440 so am happy to take it.
Anyone with a bit of flex in their dates at the moment can get real bargains. These prices are what we were paying ten years ago.

Have just had a butchers, it is true £309 from Manchester , and for the dates i have booked already for about £440...
It's too good to be true, if it stays that price for my next trip i will be well chuffed. The airlines can't be making much profit at that price...

I think they are just filling flights at the moment, which is great for us obviously.
Longer term, if they can't fill flights they wil start to cut them. What that will mean is less choice and longer waits at hub airports, they will hold long-haul flights to enable more short haul connections; not so good for us.
I don't see how such low prices can be sustained, so I would say enjpy it while you can 'cos it ain't going to last.

Should have said, both out of Heathrow. Best out of Birmingham is China Airlines at £2500ish.
Mid Eastern airlines are best for families because they don't seem to charge for the infant, you only pay the tax.

Done alot of connections through India last year, something you deffo dont want to do
Other issues you need to contend with is the behaviour of some Indian passengers, not good believe me
Again flew alot with them last year, I ended up with their gold loyalty card, not sure about their B777 but on B737; economy legroom is terrible but their business class is pretty good and a decent service

Just had another email from NetFlights with details of some very good prices for the remainder of the year. See netflights.com : Flights, Hotels & Car Hire Worldwide
Basically, Singapore Airlines are doing some very good deals from the UK to the far east and Oz, all via Singgapore. But they also mention some other destinations and prices, which includes Bangkok.
So, how about London-Singapore-Bangkok for £323, for flights in Sept and Oct. For an extra £10 per person, for flights in Nov and Dec '09. And an extra £10 per person for flights in mid-Jan and Feb.
I guess that there must be some kind of embargo over the Xmas and new year period.
I can't comment on flight availability or flight connection times without checking individual flights. Also, you need to investigate prices for just a flight to Singers, and then making your own way to Phuket.
As a bit of a bonus, Singapore A/L flies twice a day from London with an A.380, so maybe that will tempt you some more.

Hi Steve and other BM`s, I`m asking for a bit of advice please. I`m looking to stay for around 4 months, oct/nov to feb march. My preferred route is manc/changi/hkt hassle free with singapore airlines.
Previously I did this with an economy ticket for two months but decided to extend my stay and was able to change my outbound flight twice with no surcharge twice with singapore air.
I have seen a return flight to singapore with turkish air for £350 with a six week turnaround (the full four months is £550). I am wondering whether I could book the £350 flight and then try and change the dates? Or is this far too risky, and was I just lucky the first time with singapore air?

Hey fella, how's things?
Emirates will take you to Singapore on those dates - out 28th Oct in 24th Feb - for around £440 including taxes; that would be my first choice.
Trying to change flights is a little risky, if there is no availability you are screwed. Different airlines have different booking conditions. Emirates will charge £95 per change for instance, whilst BA/Qantas ( and Singapore by the sound of it ) don't charge anything.

Keep an eye open when booking Qatar, often cheap but some of the stopover times 10/12 hours plus can be killers on a flight back to the UK. For some reason, less impact on the way out. I wonder why.............?

Finnair
Anybody have any experiences with Finnair ?
Looking like my best option for my next trip. Usually like Etihad, but the flight times don't suit.
cheers

Gee, Finnair? Never known anyone fly with them, would be interesting to hear first hand experiences.
Did you look at Emirates? Hard to beat at the minute.

Am looking at next March and their prices aren't that competitive at the moment, might wait to see if they come down.
Etihad are £600-£700 then and don't fly to Manchester on Mondays...

I see that Finnair flight, looks ok.
KLM / China on those dates with decent connections both ways shows at £430, none of the Mid East carriers show good prices at the moment.
Last year I would have said take what's on offer now, but I'm thinking that's not good advice anymore. Who knows what the winter is going to bring this year? We might find that prices come down as departure dates get closer and flights are half empty, maybe best to wait until after christmas?

Yes, i think good advise, hopefully the prices may fall in the new year...
If they got anything near the £300 they were a few months back it would be very nice..
