Qatar more expensive than Thai Air
Looking round for my flights to LOS in February.
This time last year Etihad offered some of the best rates and flew with them. August I flew with Qatar as Etihad had crazy prices.
Now I am looking and Qatar are offering flights via Doha for £646, Etihad is back down to around £500 and you can get direct flight with Thai for £590 and Eva were offering direct flights for about £500!!!!
No real point to this thread just seems these airlines go up and down like a yo yo for pricing!
Thinking of just paying the extra and £130 and flying direct to BKK on Thai and then getting the transfer to HKT

Flight prices are only going up at the moment, it's competitive on the route and the airlines are getting smarter. If you know your dates it's best to book in advance as far as possible.
Anything around the £500 mark UK-BKK is about right for Feb. I had a look last week for someone and Gulf Air were coming up at £490 for feb. KLM/China are showing £510-£540 and Etihad were pretty much the same, so over £600 is too much.

i don't know what happend with the prices of Thai, but i was looking for a flight in April next year...
Thai would charge for the flight Munich-Phuket via BKK about £1200!!
with Qatar the flight (just Munich-BKK) would cost about £450...
that's a very big difference
but a friend in a holiday agency told me that they hadn't updated their prices till now... let's hope so!

I have just manage to book my flight from UK to Bangkok for February. I tried about a dozen different web-sites, and eventually hit lucky with TravelBag. I was a bit suspiscious of the prices they were quoting with EVA, so I spoke to them to confirm everything. And it was true.
EVA, Heathrow to Bangkok, in February, £471.
I think that it was £454, but add a few % for paying by credit card.
As Steve says, anything around the £500 mark is very good - book it now while you can, the later you leave it the higher the price will be.

I took some advice from a Travel agent years ago and followed it.
In the event that you regularly travel the same route then choose an airline, join their frequent flyer programme and stick with them.
The opportunity to save a hundred quid from time to time is overtaken by the preferential service you receive in making reservations, airport lounges and upgrades.

Sounds like good advice. I joined KLMs FF programme a couple of trips ago and will stick with them now. I can get good timings and prices with them, and too much shopping around will have you tearing your hair out.

I did this and joined Qatar. They upgraded me on my 1st flight over which was sweet but now they want £626 for flights to BKK! Compared to £500 for other Mid East airlines!

Don't worry about it sarsbuk, they gave you good service so stick with them and pay the extra. Meanwhile you have earnt a few more points.
Who knows, maybe you shall be upgraded again because airlines like to reward loyal customers.

It's not just the money side of it. The return flight is a nightmare. With a 7 hour stopover in Doha!!!! 2 hours was bad enough when I was there before! Can't imagine spending 7 hours there!
Bangkok (BKK)
15:25 Doha (DOH)
19:00 QR615
Doha (DOH)
02:10 +1 day(s) London (LHR)
06:55 +1 day(s) QR007
Dawsey I have specific dates in February. I sign off my current ship on the 16th Feb... Fly home from JFK for 2 days then head off on the 20th from LHR - Just over 3 weeks in Phuket coming back 16th/17th March.

Using your dates, Etihad can do it for £480. I haven't however gone into how long any stopovers are for. They also do a different flight for £513.
Avoid Emirates for £508 that make two stops, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Edit-: Just had a look and all options involve a pretty long layover either going or coming back. Sorry.

Manchester - Bangkok - Phuket
Hello Everyone,
I've read your threads and noticed that the prices you are all quoting differ greatly.
Have any of you tried booking Qatar Airways using Dial-A-Flight?
As a family of 4 we decieded to be on the safe side and book our flights in Feb. 07 for travel to Bangkok and then on to Phuket for Feb/March 08.
Are any of you aware of the Qatar "first 20" seats booking policy?
We were told by Dial-A-Flight that if you pay for the seats in full then if you are one of the lucky few to book first then ticket prices drop dramatically.
We didn't believe this and thought what a load of bull.........."Guess What?" They were right! (Dial-A-Flight).
We got the adult tickets for £375 and the kids for £325 + Airport Taxes.
We used Bangkok Airways and got the tickets to Phuket for £65.
Flight times are brilliant with Qatar;
Leave Manchester early (9ish) and arrive Bangkok around 6am.
Coming back is even better - Fly out and land back in Manchester on the same day "Good old time zones" We'll be completely wipped out.
Bangkok airways lets You as the customer pick a flight that suits, if you want to change flights etc is very easy, just put in your E-Service number and change. No charges! EasyJet take Note!
Oh! By the Way? We know these Qatar prices are cheap - Flew out to Phuket Nov/Dec 06 and we were charged £425 each + taxes + connecting flights.
All the Best and enjoy your 16 hour flights which ever way you go.
Doyley

I've just had an email from Airline Network ( Cheap Worldwide Flights and cars, Discount Hotels, Bargain Holidays to Dubai, America, Australia and Thailand ) with offers on some EVA flights heathrow-Bangkok for £449
The offer is from late March '08 until sometime in June, although for the dates at the end of March there are only a few dates available.
There's also London-Singapore-Phuket with Singapore Airlines for £565, but I have not checked the dates on these.

I've been looking at getting my flight sorted now for my next trip. So far both Emirates and Etihad are looking the best bets. Well, they are the cheapest for when I want to go. However I know very little about either of them.
The one thing I suppose I really want to know from the experienced guys is if I go to Bangkok VIA Dubai or Abu Dhabi, I will get the boarding card in London for the 2nd leg of the trip and luggage checked through, right? I'm pretty sure that's how it works but before booking I want to make sure. If that is not the case then I'll pay the extra money and fly with Thai, EVA or British Airways.
Also I have looked at peoples experiences with both airlines, both seem pretty good, but which one to pick is really what I'm asking.
Advice here would be great. Thanks in advance.
