The hotel are just covering themselves should you decide not to turn up on the busiest night of the year.At least 50% of the room cost is paid for. It should be fine to send your cc details.

A money transfer through the bank will cost you extra, around 7%, so its your choice.

If you are afraid of sending you credit cards details, send 2 emails. The first digits in the first and the rest in another.

If this reservation is just for NYE, I am surprised they do not want 100% deposit. Remember, I you don't show up the rest is lost.

What I've done in the past, when needed, is to send my cc info via email thru a secure site that they provided.

In my experience, when dealing with Hotels/Motels, most want your credit card details.

This covers them should you trash your room.
It allows them to dip into your credit to cover any damage you might leave.

Some places have requested a large security deposit if I pay by cash, unless I quote my cc details for security(theirs) purposes.

If booking directly with the hotel, I prefer to fax my cc details. E-mails can be accessed by anyone via spy-ware.

With the fax you only have to worry about the hotel staff.

Online Hotel Booking agencies like Agoda etc, offer security encryption when sending cc details, but you're still at risk.

When I mae the down payment for my trip in Feb. I wired the money directly to the Hotel's bank account. Cost me about 15.00USD, but did not have to give my car #,, might be worth looking into???
