Cheap Flights From USA?

I've looked around a bit and $700-$760 was the cheapest the west coast. My Thai friend says that I should expect to pay that much in high season, not low season of Sept.

Where can I get better rates?

Try Travelocity.com. $715 round trip right now from New York on UAL (through Travelocity!), so should be cheaper on west coast.

One trick I use is to do my own routing on the UAL site. Narita seems to be their Asian hub, so I book a single trip as a multiple - destination trip for the cheaper prices. This method has never failed me for the two times I've flown UAL to Bangkok from New York (JFK Airport). It's a lot more work & more complicated getting the connecting times to synch up just right, but definitely worth the effort for me.

Thanks TB

I'll try the multi-route thing.

$700 is not too bad I guess, but if I could get cheaper than that's even better.

Do you know exactly what dates you want to travel on? If so, AND If I have time I'll see what I can come up with.

Keep me posted on if you find anything cheap. I'm searching for good deals for November myself flying from the east coast (Providence), so far it looks like $800 through Orbitz is the best I can do. Travelocity lists a $715 fare through United Airlines but then it says they dont provide service between those two cities(which is not true since the $800 at Orbitz is through them). I remember seeing really low fares a few months ago for springtime flights on Travelocity, I think it was around $650 or so, wish they still had those kinds of specials going right now.

Do you know approx. when in November? Weekday/weekend travel? How long of a stay? I'm planning a trip for early October from Newark,NJ on EVA. Going to try their Evergreen Deluxe Class for approx. $992 before taxes/fees. I need the wider seat now, and that's a cheaper alternative than buying 2 Economy seats for myself.Slightly less than Business Class sized seat with slightly better than Economy service.

Right now, it looks as though I would travel Oct 31 - Nov 23. I checked eva but they dont service this area, Newark is the nearest. Its cheaper but a connecting flight from here bumps up the price.

US Airways from PVD to ORD: $177.00 with taxes/fees. They codeshare with United, but VERY different fares from the UAL site ($254 - $274).

Got a roundtrip ORD-BKK fare of $784.50 from UAL Reservations. I got $791 roundtrip on my own from the UAL website (ORD-NRT-BKK; BKK-NRT-SEA-ORD).

Yes, that's a lot to go through, but it's the cheapest I could find. Providence isn't an easy city to travel from cheaply.

I guess I shouldnt have kept searching for a better deal because now the flight I was looking at is up from $800 to $856. I wonder if prices will drop in the next few months or if they will keep climbing?

Just curious which airline had that price & what cities were you routed through? You used a travel agent or Internet? If that price is from Providence, that's very good.

I found it on orbitz a few days ago. Too late now I guess. I had switched through several of the big travel searches, but earlier this year I had seen travelocity advertising $650 for that same trip I'm just too cheap sometimes.

I just looked at that $856 fare on Orbitz. Did you notice the overnight stay in Chicago? Almost 2 full days of travel!

i am facing the same dilema now. I should've booked it two weeks ago when I first saw the tickets for 897. That was just two flights each way. But I waited on this travel agent to get back to me with PROMISED dates etc.. Now the ***** is not calling me back and not answering her fone. It has been over 4 days.. ARGHH!!! that ***** truly screwed me over because on orbitz now the dates for that flight is GONE because it went up to like double the orignal price.. WTF!! ARGHHH. i am soo mad at that lady. i shouldn't have depended just on her. but she kept telling just have some patience she will settle it..

WHY LIE TO ME?!?!?

*sorry had to vent* now I am scouring the net trying to find reasonable flight tickets out .. from July 25th to August 15th.

US flights

A good way to get good prices is to sign up on airline websites. alot of times, they will give you a better price than the people that do not belong. For example, I am a member on CathayPacific and they list nyc-bkk as 1500.00 but will put it out to memebers for 1000.00 from time to time and this airline is awesome, the american airlines do not compare, so for 200-250 more, its worth flying them. i also hear singapore airlines is fantastic. if 1000.00 is too expensive, check nwa.com, they are sometimes under 1000.

True. I'm also a member of Cathay Pacific's, along with quite a few other clubs. I flew Cathay 3 times last year on "Deal of the Month" specials. No FF mileage, but a nice cheap ticket. WildOne, I checked your dates, and true - no cheap options right now. Your dates must be "return to school" time, or locals visiting relatives? Anyway, try to hold out until the first week of July. I flew Cathay to BKK from JFK last August on a special. Don't remember what I paid, but Bangkok hasn't been on sale recently. It may be due soon. Go to their USA web page, not the Hong Kong one, and check it daily:

http://www.cathay-usa.com/sitedefault.asp

Right now, Bali's on sale. Let that pass & see what happens. Other than paying better than $1800 or more on another airline right now, you've got nothing to lose at this point.

Wildone,
I just checked cathay pacific for your dates. right now its 1500.00, but if you sign up and check everyday, they will lower it to 1000.00, but you have to look everyday, thats what i did, and im flying out of jfk for 1000.00 and cathay pacific is definitely worth it, they treat you like a king, and its non-stop to hong kong now.

Cathay Pacific Sale

As predicted, Cathay's July "Deal of the Month" destination from the USA is Bangkok. $636 from the west coast (LAX, SFO), $806 from the east (JFK). You have until 7/31/2004 to buy tickets. A good deal from a good airline. It also looks like the optionally free HKG stopover is back !

Unfortunately, WildOnE, travel dates at these prices range from Sep. 5 to Nov.30. Nowhere near your desired travel dates . Hopefully your travel agent took care of you, like you expected. I've kept an eye on the prices for your dates. No changes from what we talked about earlier.

Cool

I pulled this of www.batamforum.com - Hopefully it is of some help

"A big barrier for many to travel to Asia is the cost.

The barrier is only in your mind, as once you arrive, everything is far cheaper.

Here are some tips:

A person I know who travels by air a lot says he never specifies
the dates of his travel and always uses the flexible dates option to get
the lowest price.

When you are flying from a major Asian departure
airport (LAX), you will have lots of options. I have to fly to a major
departure airport, like LAX, MSP, SEA, DFW, or SFO. That limits the
possibilities on Travelocity flexible dates, as half of the low prices are
for Asian airlines that do not fly anywhere near my home airspace.

Every time I check Priceline for overseas flights they are more expensive
that what I can do elsewhere. In the past they did not tell you the
flights or the times until you purchased. Are these supposed to be a
great selling points for using their service? More expensive and I don't
know anything about the flight until after I purchase? So use Priceline
if you can find a good fare there. I use them to be sure what I am paying
is way lower than anything they offer.

I ran some more checks.

Orbitz: since Orbitz does not have flexible dates, I made up some dates:
15 Sep to 4 Dec from LAX to BKK. These prices are starting prices; the
flights you select might be more. Where there are two prices, that is as
listed for one or two stops. There were more airlines, but those cost
more than $800 round trip.

Delta - $678 (China Air in disguise)
Korean Air - $681
China Air - $693 or $697
Asiana - $719
Eva - $739
United $769 or $774

Travelocity: I used flexible dates and got similar prices as I posted
before. When I tried to book a trip using flexible dates from mid Sep to
Early Dec, I found that the return trips seemed to be limited to a month
or two following the month of Departure. Thsi seemed to be true for the
first four options, so I quit. I then specified the dates I made up
before: 15 Sep to 4 Dec. These are again LAX to BKK. Note that these
are
the cheapest routing options. The flights you select may cost more than
these prices.

Korean Air - $673
Delta - $673 (Korean Air in disguise)
Delta - $679 (China Air in disguise)
PI Air - $682
China Air - $686
Eva Air - $750
United - $781

So git along lildoggie to that great web site in the sky. You kin rope
them there good values if you try."
