Amazing what you can find with Google and the Eva Air website.

EVA air are my first choice for direct flights, they leave Thai air standing.

What is the in flight entertainment like? I have looked on seatguru.com and they show some of their planes don't have personal TV screens.. but you watch a communal one! Have you come across this?
Booked on Eva in February.

The bigger, newer planes(Airbus?) have the personal TV on the back of the seat in front of you. The older and smaller planes don't.

Not sure about that, BA and Qantas have steadily upgraded the inflight entertainment over the years so most (all?) of the 747s now have seatback screens with games etc, but others such as KLM and Air France have not done, they may have plans to but it hasn't happened yet and KLM have a fairly modern fleet.
I can't think of an airline flying the Europe-Asia route which uses anything other than 747s (stand by to be corrected). It's more to do with the airline than the aircraft itself.
You might find yourself on a brand new 747, operated by the likes of KLM who have made a decision that seat back entertainment is not for them.
Personally, I don't give a toss about the ten hours I spend on a plane. When I book a flight I'm more interested in connection times and reliability of the airline itself.

read somwhere a few weeks ago they are re-placing current London route Airbus with 747's that currently operate out of USA.....can't recall 100% if they were gonna be updated etc before starting to fly out of Europe but I think that was the case
think it was the EVA website that had the info on....might be worth a look

don't know eva air, but there's no thai B744 available with a personal entertainment system...
i guess they only have it in the newer A345/A346 aircraft! (only can confirm it on A346)
if there's no PES (personal entertainment system), it would be a NO-GO on long-hault flight fo me... maybe because i can't really sleep during flight

I've used EVA air on my last six or seven trips to LOS (from London Heathrow), I think that overall Thai and EVA are about the same, the only reason I use EVA is because of the personal entertainment system, I flew home two weeks ago and had a choice of about 12 different movies as well as games and TV shows, on a 11 hour flight you need something to do, you can only sleep for so long!
The baggage allowance is 20kg, I signed up for the EVA air loyalty scheme and I recently got a silver membership, it entitles me to 30kg baggage allowance and it also allows me to use the VIP lounges, the VIP lounge at Suvarnabhumi was great, free food, drinks inc alcohol, Internet, massage chairs and showers! The only way to fly!

Confirming what 'fastphil' says above, and adding some additional info ... EVA currently operate Boeing 777 aircraft on the London-BKK route, and all seats are fitted with seat-back screens.
At the start of December they will change aircraft, and the route will be operated by Boeing 747, but these have been upgraded, so they should also have seat-back screens.

Yes, I too am a fan of EVA have used them many times. I have though found the newer Boeing 777 seats a bit hard, even in the "Elite" class. I think I preferred the "Evergreen Deluxe" seating in the nose cone of their 747's.
The other airline I have used because you can get an inclusive fare from Phuket (via KL) is Malaysian, but I would rate Thai Air better and EVA better again.

Totally agree, I am not a fan of the seats on the 777. Unless you are in Premium Laural $$$ and then they are great. The old Deluxe seats on the 747-400 were more comfortable IMO but they had poor/old entertainment systems in Deluxe.
