Appartment rental

I am looking at taking a job offer to work in Patong and will probably be starting in mid January.

I have lived in BKK before but only visited Phuket on two short occasions so don't really know my way around. Can anyone suggest some areas in which to look for an appt to rent (one bedroomed) and a guide on prices would be appreciated.

thanks

Unknown what job you are considering, as hours of it could dictate the distance you are willing to travel to work.

Patong obviously best option, livliest town and shortest distance to work.

You will get lots of opinions here but none that will assist you, because you will no doubt have personal requirements and desires that we are not aware of, that will shape your final decision.

Costs, approximately, 1 bed, 1 room bg type accomodation in an apartment block, from 2500bht to 5,000bht per month. I bed but with separate lounge, balcony maybe 5 to 8,000bht, then of course you will get widely swinging difference dependant on such things as pool access or sea view or location and all of that will be just considering Patong.

Get a little more descriptive and perhaps detail a bit of a wish list with acceptables if not available, ie, town centre, new, pool access etc and we can be a little more accurate. Or say how much you would want to and be prepared to spend per month and we could tell you approx what you'd get and where.

Phuket Town rentals will be cheapest and about 15ish minutes drive away from patong, Kathu, Kamala & Karon, next nearest options and cheaper than patong but now not by such a large margin.

Best bet grab a cheap hotel for a couple of weeks or rent a cheap room and get a feel for the area's yourself, give yourself time to decide why you like a particular place first before committing to a long term rental.

Also that way you can be offered x number of places by members on here that know of this place or that and once you let the local 7-11 girl or shop worker know you are looking for an apartment, you will also be offered stuff that her cousin owns etc.

Thanks for your very helpful reply Dodger.... I wasn't sure whether to put a load of info as to my requirements as it may appear as though I was sponging and getting others to do the work for me!!!!

Ideally I would like a proper one bed appt.. i.e. with a separate lounge. Pool access is a must really... view? No that important. Price... Well I am looking to pay up to 12K Baht possibly a little more. I don't really want to have a long commute each day distance/time wise as the hours will be fairly long especially to start with. Aircon (not fan) is a 100% must though..... oh.... and a bar nearby!!!

You get all of that in an apartment in Patong for 12k, it will be high season as you get here, which of course you know, so maybe take an option of just 1 bed apartment 7/8 k on say Soi Nanai no pool, and shop around for a really good deal in low season, you will know more people as well then.

I've got a few contact emails addresses, I'll try and pm some up to you tommorrow, sorry but beer sing is calling me right now, gotta go!!!!!

You'll get quite a few others telling you of places as well on this thread anyway, but I'll try to remember tomollow!!!!!
