Customs and passport control in Phuket

Gday all,

I will be flying directly to Phuket for my next hols, and was wondering if the Passport and Customs lines/procedures are as dreadful as bangkok. Do you get through a bit quicker?

Just curious.

Cheers.

I have been through Phuket a number of times and I was always through customs before my bags came out. Obviously depends where your flight comes from.

If your flight gets in late or after 2 or 3 others it can be a long process.Up to an hour sometimes.

When you get to passport control, head to the express lane on the left,it is usually quicker because of more staff working there.

I've done clearance in Phuket twice recently, very slow on both occasions, about 45-60 mins. In BKK I've always been lucky and got through before my bags. I guess it's a random thing and varies depending upon your timing.

Perth is the slowest of anywhere that i know but it is due in part to the strict Quarantine laws we have here and also to the inadequate facilities at the International arrivals area.

Tip, don't fly in to Perth Int Air on a Sunday afternoon.

I've always found the entry much easier than the exit at Phuket......

on the way out the lines for checking in can be very long and in typical thai style people try to join the queue from the side in front of you.....immigration usually only takes 10-20mins max...then it's a sit and wait in the lounge

I never take checked lugage so on the way in I am usually through customs out the door and in a cab within 10 minutes.....I just love that!

Just a tad off subject, but...how do you guys get through security with carry on luggage?

Do you not carry shaving cream, after shave, shampoo, etc., in your bags? Since the advent of the (restricted) fluid rules, I've just resigned myself to checking my bags in. (after the first hassle with above mentioned items)

Just curious.

passport stamp

Scotty, Make sure you get your passport stamped when leaving. They didn't do it for me and I ended up with a lot of hassle on my second trip. They thought I had been there all year.

Pablo…I purchase the small size (3oz –30mil size – shaving cream, tooth paste, shampoo etc..) at my local Wal-Mart. Seems to be enough to get me through. Anything else I need is purchased in Thailand.

I also find the queue longer during exit. On arrival was very fast, short queues.

I buy all my toiletries when i arrive.

shaving cream is the only thing I have trouble getting under 100ml....so I usually travel with a shave stick now.....put them all in a clear plastic bag and take it out of hand luggage to show when going through customs....no one bats an eyelid anymore

Same for me Sledge.

I have a shoulder bag, with valuables, that I carry on board with me.

The (big bag) has all toiletries etc., and is checked in the "hold", also.

But some of these guys are talking about skipping baggage claim completely, and using carry on bags, for all.

Just small amounts of the (liquids etc.), I guess you can get through with.

Been through customs a couple of times in Phuket and never been held up more than 10-15 mins, as for the carry on items like shaving foam and the like it's easier and cheaper to buy in LOS than the UK anyway.

They put up a new taxfree shop in the arrivals hall last year, and removed immigration checkpoints to make room for it..

i never had any problems with customs. in fact, they are not even manned
in the mornings when i arrrive.
with immigrattion, you just have to wait in line. no problem with that as it
has been the same in all countries unless you have connections. 5555. cheers.

Talk about getting in late,, what will customs be like at 01:25am??? I would not think to many flights arrive at this time,, maybe I am wrong?? Also will there be the usual hoard of taxi's???
What would be the best advice in getting from the airport down to Rawai at that hour??? do the rivers know where most everything is??
Appreciate any advice??
