Is Koh Chang Worth Visiting?
I want to find an out of the way beach. I am considering Koh Samet and Koh Chang as they are close to Pats. Have any of you been there? Is it worth the trip?

Koh Samet has indeed quit a lot visitors. Not so much tourists, but a lot of Thais go there for their weekend.
When I think about it, one of the best beach I've been in LOS was on Koh Phangang. There are incredibly beautiful and quite beaches around that island. But that was approx. 4 years ago, it might have changed by now?
....it's a bit off Pats, but so much worth the journey if you have time.

Koh Chang is a glorious place, well worth a visit for 3-4 days before Pattaya starts calling you back.
About a six hour trip, door to door.
Oh.....T Y O T G because the locals are of no great shakes.

Yes Koh Chang is worth a visit IMO... Some really beautiful beaches. Its cheap and very laid back too. White sands at the northern end of the Island is where most of the night-life is...

yep....I'm a KC fan....great place to sit back and kick yer legs up...definitely BYOTG but there are a few around on the island
Samet is also good fo a few days.....but gets too many day visitors...so you need to be away from these areas

Just like to point out that a Chang is a Thai elephant.
Dodger told me one day and I have been eternally grateful as I thought the t-shirt I was wearing was a local pop group! Tch!
Watch out for them on the beach if you feel like having a crafty one, could really ruin your day if one stepped on you mid stroke.

Was there a 2 years ago. Wonderful time. Maybe the road completely circumvents the island now? Before there was less them a mile or 2 where u could not go all the way around.
Many places to stay from low end to high end. Rented a bike right where I got off the ferry and returned it when I got back on the ferry. Some good and bad beaches. Just look and u will find. Treated very well where ever I went to eat, stay, the beach.
Was told by someone to bring a girl with me. Glad I did not bring sand to the beach. Plenty there.
If u go. Give us a report.

I think that's the same set-up. One main road on the western side of the Island where all the beaches are, white sands Kai Bea, Lonely etc. There's a road on the eastern side also but there is very little on that side of the Island. There's a private resort at the southern end of the Island which blocks the 2 roads linking IIRC.

Guys, what's the travelling time from Pattaya to Koh Chang?
And I am right in saying that you can get a mini-bus back to Ekkamai station in Bangkok pretty easily?

Making the trip
Thanks for all those that gave input on KC. I am in Pattaya now and hating it..it is just a sensory overload and I can honestly say i will never be back here. Too much greed and commercialization. I was here 3 years ago and had the time of my life. Have I changed or has Pattaya?
Going to Koh Chang tomorrow. I will give a report on the island and the "scene" when I get back. Not bringing TG, so it should be interesting to suss out the situation.
Thanks again for Koh Chang advice.

I spent 6 days on Koh Chang during christmas and I had a lovely time there. I stayed on White sands beach and I found it more quiet then I had anticipated. It was quite alot of people there but never overcrowded! You should stay there as the other beaches are VERY quiet with not much to do in the evenings!! It is a beautiful Island and at least on Whiet Sands Beach there are lots of nice restaurants, bars and also a cluster of beer bars at the southern end of White Sands Beach.

Yes, one small in the Andaman Sea and one big one close to cambodia. You also have koh Si Chang right north of pattaya.
