Trouble at Motien Riverside hotel BKK!
I have booked 5 days at the Motien Riverside hotel in BKK in feb, during which time me and my lady will be getting our marriage certs
Now I was just looking online for things about the hotel even though id already booked it and I noticed this comment...
Quote:
Montien Riverside Hotel Bangkok, Rama III Road
Montien Riverside Hotel I would not recommend this hotel to anyone in a fit. This hotel has disgusted me with their discrimination policy to their own people which was only notified to me by e-mail 24hrs before my arrival !! I booked the hotel months ago from Australia and on the eve of the booking I was told that unless my partner has an Australian passport she would be charged an extra Baht1000 per night !!! I promptly cancelled my booking in disgust and had to succumb to a forfeiture of Baht3200 that is one night s booking. This hotel is an absolute disgrace and let it be known.
|
I have not emailed them yet but if this is the case I am shocked at the pure racism of this, and will want to cancle my booking right now!
I'm going to start looking for somewhere else just in case and if their answer is yes I will have to pay 1000 extra per night just because my partner is thai, will i need to ask this question in any of the other top hotels in BKK? because nothing like that is stated on any of their websites I have looked at when booking

I took a look at Trip Advisor, where ratings of any given hotel typically rate all over the map. Out of 34 reviews there were 2 poor ones, both relating to location (by the river).
My sense is that the comment you refer to is a matter of miss communication and the intent of the hotel was to convey that there is a 1000 baht joiner fee. For Christ sake would they have charged 1000 baht if the partner had an American or German passport.
Before you react, send them an email detailing your situation. Tell them that you will be checking in with your fiancee who has a Thai passport/ID and you want to make certain that she will not be viewed as "joiner". Let them know that she will check in with you as a fully registered guest.
I doubt you will have any problems.

The Montien Hotel Riverside is a very impressive Hotel. Stayed there a few times and it is not GF. It's the hotel I stay at before I go home, basicly to de-los myself.
All Montiens are the same, although the one at Patpong rd is becoming most tired. I remember in 1984 they wanted 1000bht then.
If you want spectacular views, which the Montien provides, cancel and book Baiyoke Sky tower. Not the standard of a Montien, GF no grief, and sh1tloads of everything around you. I paid around $60us per night on the 49th floor, days before I met you at mtb "English" lol.

I had no problem with this hotel
Because I had problem getting a late flight from Phuket 1. January i used this hotel to relaxe before my late flight home. My girfriend stayed at the room to the next day without any problems.
I used it because It was included in the tour package, next time I will order a hotel nearer the airport

Its all sorted now, the company spoke to the hotel and asked about it and they don't seem to have any worries about english/thai and all that, both our names are on the booking and there shouldnt be a problem. But as marc said, i imagine there may be the odd bit of trouble with the desk and or security if they don't remember who we are due to the size of the place but oh well. all sorted now, cheers guys.
Also I did a double check with the Sofitel in Khon Kaen, as we're there for a few nights. now THAT i'm looking forward too as i heard nothing but good things

Glad you have your stay sorted.
Nothing worse than racism.
The biggest safeguard is to always have both guests names on the booking.
They then can't legally knock you back or charge a premium.
We know where they're coming from but their approach can discriminate against genuine mixed background couples.
Have a great trip.

PROBLEM IS BACK!
Quote:
Dear Bill,
Sorry for the delay. Just got back from my short vacation and pretty tired mentally and physically.
Did check and The Montien Riverside is not going to work. Even with your gf's name and checking in together, they will charge a 1000 Baht fee. Ridiculous.
Checked and other riverside hotels have this rubbish as well. Suppose we should think about others?
All the best.

Sorry you're having such a problem with this.
Sounds to me like it could be a misinterpretation, by the hotel. (language difficulties included)
I don't mean to be harsh, but why would you send emails to the hotel, inquiring about (joiner fees)...when you're planning on "checking in" with the lady? Maybe it sent up a caution flag to them.
I've stayed in Riverside hotels in BKK (as well as other 5 star properties, in the city), with m TGF. And, I've never booked her name in advance. Simply added her (with ID), as the second guest at check in...and never got the slightest bit of a hassle.
I cannot believe that any hotel will add a surcharge, because a (second) registered guest is a Thai national. (assuming you have booked for 2 guests)
I really think that there is some miscommunication going on here. These hotels are definitely not "joiner friendly", and you may have opened yourself to problems, merely by inquiring.
I think a lot of this trouble you're having, could be language related. Just because they understand some english, a lot can slip by.
Hope you get it worked out, anyway.

I think this is outrageous, I really do.
I have no problems with hotels choosing not to allow prostitutes in.
I find the notion of joiner fees a total joke, they should take one stance or the other.
But this.....is just a joke.
I'm tempted to phone them and ask about this.

I agree with what you are saying Pabs, and I too have never had any problem booking into any hotel with Gee or before with my previous girlfriend and we actually stayed once at the Montien.
However, reading the mail from PS travel agent, he does actually state that the Hotel will still charge this fee, even if they send her name beforehand and book in together.
Then I started thinking how to extract himself from this and re-book without his hassle. Why not try to contact them direct and make a booking for two with your gf's name included PS?
Or easier still, book another place.

i'm sorry but you clearly didnt read the first post. the reason i inquired was totally valid because of this review on the internet:

i asked him to clarify 1 more time that they would 100% charge 1000 baht extra because she is thai and she does not have my sirname and he said yes

Bill,
Yes, that' s right.
Only way is if you are married and your wife has your surname. Absolutely terrible. Seems like this policy is for Riverside hotels.
Will definitely think about some nice options and get back later today.
All the best.

So i'm just going to book somewhere else with them. Its no big deal for me to be honest but it is for her as she wanted somewhere by the river as she's never even seen the river before! but in any case they better rectify this situation with an even nicer hotel for the same money, like that sky hotel for example

Or easier still, book the room in the GF's name. (probably a lower rate, too)
Then add yourself as 2nd guest, at check in! 55555
Would they charge a joiner fee for Thai lady bringing farang with her?

You are sorry.
And, clearly I did read the first post!
One review has a problem with their joiner policy, and you start pestering them with emails.
Nevermind, you work it out!

Why are you being a twat? the hotel has CONFIRMED that they will charge the extra 1000 baht weather we check in together or not, in whoever’s name, regardless. This is not a 'joiner fee', this is the hotels policy, this is what they have said as my fiancé has now spoken to the duty manager on the telephone to also confirm this. Shes already sent them a nasty email and shes going to go as far as writing a letter to a member of parliament as this is pure discrimination against her own people. If someone here has stayed there with their Thai partner without any problems then maybe they slipped through the net and got lucky or more likely the policy has changed for the New Year
We are going to be booking somewhere else, there are plenty of other beautiful hotels around and I don't need the trouble

There is reason behind the madness. and that is...: most of the time people who come out with the *i'm going to put you on ignore mwahahah* when they get shown up or are in the wrong and they know it, don't actually do jack shit about putting someone on ignore because they want to see what the person's reply is due to their girlie tendencies.
Plus I wrote it for my own gratification as he pissed me off slightly
