Making inexpensive phone calls to the USA?

Does anyone know where there are Internet cafes in
Patong where inexpensive phone calls can be made
back to the USA?

Also any suggestions for laundry places?

Thank you.

Just buy a SIM and dial 008 instead of 001.

Do you mean buy a SIM card in Patong or Bangkok for my Sprint/Nextel
phone that I normally use in the US? Thank you.

Hi, For anyone looking at getting their laundry done, I find it cheaper and easier to drop it off at one of those tour operators who display a sign at their place of business. Always ready the next day to pick up.

Dunno about your phone, you may need to unlock it, Spirit/Nextel doesn't mean anything to me.

i doubt your phone will work in Pationg, with the US cell phone mafia and all
at very least you need a tri-band phone

if you are going to be in LOS for any lenght of time just buy a cheapish phone and you can dial direct just as Schmeen has suggested
i use to come home and drunk dial for hours to US!!

The Nextel network is different than other networks, so locked or unlocked it may not work. The original Sprint network is the same type as others.

For a North American phone you will need tri-band as the first two bands are for the N.A. networks. If you have or acquire a phone from elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.), it need only be a dual band phone.

I purchased a couple of dual band Nokia phones on eBay (from GB and AUS), which I use in Thailand. Each cost me about $40 and came unlocked. Dual band phones are cheaper because they do not work all over the world, but I don't care as long as they work outside of N.A.

Send a message via ICQ to nacha
you can also go to one of the many internet shops and use one of the many VoIP software available (like skype)...
there are many providers where you can talk for free!

I purchased a used cell phone with a new SIM card a couple years ago and still use it for my LOS trips I think I paid about 1000 Baht for both. It is very cheap to call back to the US this way just go to any 7/11 to buy more minutes. I cant remember the name of the huge electronics store in BKK where I got the phone I think it was Pantip Plaza maybe one of the other members here will know.

I looked up Mobivox on the net. They didn't have a local access number
for Thailand. How do you make your calls? Thanks.

VOIP Phones

I take my VOIP phone to Thailand. Firstly people can ring my UK number and my phone rings and secondly ringing the UK is a local call. There are lots of real providers of this type of technology as well as skype (which is quite closed really). I also forward my mobile to the VOIP and use a Thai sim card in the mobile handset.

I recently went to Greece for 3 days and did not take my VOIP phone. Vodafone charged me £180 for the calls I made and received.

In Thailand I spent about 27p altogether.
