Often times, ie. almost every time, one of the two has very short lines and there is no need to wait more than 10 minutes. I think this is due to the drop-off point for the bus transfers from the planes and the fact that people just go to the first immigration entrance they see and aren't aware there are actually two.

Last time in Bangkok the line was very long and not moving. An official directed people to the other entrance (which I had already walked past with the rest of the sheep). Alas by the time everybody ran to the other entrance the queue was just as long, however was moving more efficiently. Luck of the draw.
Phuket, just walk very fast. I usually arrive about 8.30 pm so not many there. Not many officials at passport control so very slow if at the back of the line and there appears to be nobody interested at the exits where immigration is. Just walk through. Is this the norm?
