Its getting tougher.. But I would never leave a passport.

If you want one in Patong drop a PM before you need it and my girl can deliver one to you.. No passport needed for BM's.

Yes she is..

I discussed with Nicke before high season about if it was appropriate to post and he suggested having a official sticky or notice.. As it turned out, us going to Bali, the house collapsing, other things delayed starting it a bit and means its very low key and she just has a couple of bikes (but her mates also do so theres not a shortage) and I figured it was too low key to make a post.

Bikes are Nuovo MX's and Airblades (big autos) or a 125i wave (manual).. Rates are normal patong low rates (mates rates) and depends on how long of course. If she gets monthly rentals I can add a bike or two (great business model huh !! I buy she rents !!). Of course they are as always no insurance, you break it you pay it deals. Thats the market. Delivered to hotel and picked up. No scams obviously, if anyone does prang it, just call her, it will be fixed at genuine fix cost and less than a visitor will pay.

I hope this isnt out of line.. I was sort of avoiding promo'ing it..

My travel insurance usually only covers me for less than 125cc. Can you get small Mios or the like? Doesn't have to be twist-n-go.

Nuovo MX is (as MT says) 115 (may even be 113 so < 115)..

A 125i wave would also be <125cc.. I have to say that I prefer the manual geared bikes, but then I am a big lump and the wave has much better power than those autos which lose a lot to the auto drivetrain. I just feel more in control of a manual but for nanai rd cruising I can see the benefit of a auto.

I dont understand what the big deal with the passport is!?

If you want to rent on the road I agree, not a good idea, they keep our ID in a cookie box, seen the last days.

Just choose a guesthouse or hotel, where they put it in the safe and it is maybe more save, then to keep the passport in your room.

And I fully understand why they collect the passports. If you break it you pay it. And I have heard, about so "clever" guys who rent a bike, break it and just don't return it. As the person who rents it, you can do more or less nothing. Because its a civil case he can sue you...waste of time and money.
The police is not responsible for this.

The same problem has every car rental company in Europe, what I know. Its not theft because you rented it and you have a contract.

So choose a trusting place, give them the passport and take care of the bike, then everybody is happy :-)

You would willingly give these jokers your passport ??

You seen how well they take care of them ?? Or you want it back (leave in emergency) and they are not around !!

Or the common scam of asking what day you go and where you stay, then the night before you leave sending a guy round with duplicate keys to steal the bike and demanding full new price (you have no choice, that or miss your flight).. The police are in on half these scams anyway.

Or any accident repair is any number they dream up.. some scratched plastics costing 10 or 20k baht..

Giving you passport away is not only illegal (its not yours, read the notes in the front, not to be given to unauthorised personnel) its also really dumb, the whole balance of power has now shifted to them (and they know it).. why put yourself in a position to be scammed ??

Even though I agree with this wholeheartedly, it really depends on what choice you have these days.

After my “incident” I needed to rent a bike for a couple of days. All the usual shops were out, so I started hitting the streets in Kamala, but none would even consider renting me a bike without a passport. Same result the few places I tried in Patong (Nanai). Even those I’ve rented from before. And waiving my WP at them didn’t help much either.

So unless your hotel cannot provide one for you, it looks as if you’re out of luck.

(Come to think of it though, my face was pretty scratched up so that might’ve had something to do with it )

In the end my landlord fixed one for me. But I guess I could’ve used my "lost" (non-perforated) passport. Unless they check for missing visas that is. Might be an option to consider if you don't want to relinquish your real one...

That sums it all up….well said. Have to wonder how many people couldn’t find the guy holding their passport after the Tsunami?

Off topic but it wasn't really an issue, everyone just got on flights and left. No passports were checked and if they were peeps just said they were lost. Loads of overstayers used the free flights to get back to home countries and get new passports.

I have recently rented a bike from Bee and can recommend - decent bikes, decent price, delivered to and picked up from your guesthouse - no hassles.

Thanks Dale.. Glad to be of service..

Now I just have to get her doing it on her own.. I had no intention of working myself but it never works like that with Thai girls does it
