Question Taxi fare and overnight guests at Marriot

Hi guys. Excellent site. I'm new at this. I'm heading to Phuket on my own in a few month and will be staying at Marriot for a week. Just wondering if anybody has any idea how much it would cost to take a Taxi from Patong Beach to Marriot or the other way around? I know I'll be doing this at least once or twice everyday.

Second question: I know Marriot doesn't allow overnight guests, but being alone and staying in a suite that sleeps six people, you think I could get away with having a guest over a few times week. Is it possible for me to sneak them in and what are the consequense if caught? I am of Asian decent and a lot of people say I look Thai, chinese, or japanese. Will they check our id's when entering the hotel? How would they know that she isn't really my gf.

I would love to stay closer to Bangla Road, where the action is, but Marriot was the only resort where I could trade my time share week. Thank you for your help.

If its the Marriott North of Phuket between airport and sarasin bridge (don't know any others) you'd be better off hiring a car otherwise the majority of your holiday expenditure is going to be on transport.... i'd guess about 45 mins to 1 hour to Patong from Marriott

my advice would be to cancel your reservation with Marriott, and stay in Patong... you dont want to be driving 1.5 hours to go out...

and i believe they do allow overnight guests, as long as you pay the joiner fee (if your staying in the JW Marriott). if you are staying in a timeshare unit it would have to be for free, you can take anyone you want onto the resort

Cool Far far away

Your hotel is at the extreem north of the island and would be a long trip into Patong.(allow over an hour dependant on traffic.)

Other option would be plan your trip to Patong and book a cheap room for overnight and drive home next day. That way you can have a bender and take some company home and drive back sober.

Cool My lexicon

"To have a bender" = "hanging one on" OR "getting mortal" OR " getting pissed as a newt" OR "getting sh1tfaced"

I am sure there are many more.

I think you may get some resistance also from girls to return there.. So you have to sort them back to hotel, get them in the hotel, get them out and taxi's back..

All a mega hassle..

Talking

Thanks for all the advice. I know Jw Mariot is far. Stayed there two years ago with current girlfriend for five days and spent most of the time at the resort and surrounding areas. Was able to make one trip to Patong and was delighted to see so many eye candies except can't touch and can't speak to any. We took a shuttle bus to Patong provided by the hotel but I don't remember how much it cost me. Thought a taxi wold be cheaper....

Since I traded my time share week for the Phuket Marriot, I'll practically be staying there for no cost at all. Just wondered if I'm allowed overnight guests. I love the resort, everything you may want is there except the bgs.
Sneakysnake are you sure I'm allowed overnight guests?

I know I have to call the resort and check for myself...Crustatians, that' actually a good advice staying patong and booking a hotel for the LTs. Thanks again for everyones help.

did you change your timeshare week for marriott reward points, and are you using those to stay in the JW Marriott, or did you change your week straight up for a week, and are you staying in one of the appartments? if you have a appartment they should never be able to charge you joining fee, or make any objections... just call to make sure though... do you own a marriott timeshare? or did you get lucky on I.I?

If you check in with a Thai Girl, you'll usually not have to pay extra.
Check in the 1st night with a gal... then maybe they won't notice when you switch.. and just assume it's the one you checked in with

This strategy sometimes requires coming to Patong a day earlier than planned to find a gal to check in with...

Oh, the taxi fare will likely be 500 each way.

With 2 R/Ts per day, compare how much to rent a car or, if you like to drink, one with a driver. The roads are dangerous at night.

Sneakysnake, Yes, I'm actually going to trade my week with I.I. for a Marriot stay. Is there a difference if I booked my iteneraries with I.I. instead with Marriot people? I don't have any association with Marriot with what so ever. Will I have problems bringing a girl?

500bt one way Ouch... Now, if I have a LT, 500bt back to hotel and another 500bt for her taxi fare to come back to Patong. that's a total of 1500bt for transportation alone that's not including the LT cost. if I stayed at Patong, i know I won't have to spend that kind of money for transportation since I'm usually going to walk most of the time. Now I'm trying to weigh the positive for both. Marriot has the ameneties that I like and it's free 7 days stay, and Patong is quick and easy but may not have the same ameneties. Boy, this is a tough choice.

Now I wonder if I could find a gf hotel comparable to Marriot for 1500bt somewhere in Patong? Thnaks again guys...

One more thing...I haven't booked with I. I yet since I'm still weighing which choice is better and I haven't broke the news with my girlfriend that I'm going to Thailand alone for rr. Are there other places closer to Talang where I could pick up bgs since I may be too lazy to go out to Patong on some nights, but I know the dance clubs are probably in Patong and I love to wiggle my buns

That's actually an excellent idea. Thank you. That's another option I could do and probably stay a lot longer than 7 days. Maybe during the day I could find alternative accomodation. 5 or 6 days at the Marriot, and 5 or 6 days at another hotel in Patong is doable.

to be honest, i think that is the best way
just make sure you do the Marriott part 1st because if you do Patong 1st, there is no way you are shutting it down and going to veg at Marriott 55555

let us know your prices and we will recommend some hotesl in Patong for you

If you can afford a marriot stay then the additional cheap room in Patong for a few days is no problem.. It lets you blow off steam in Patong and also means that if you click with a girl and want to have some daytime chill time, shes much more likely to be happy to accompany you up there once she knows you a little. I also think any joiner issues may be less in force if she arrives in the daytime and is there for evening meal and chill time rather than staggering at 4am.

I just emailed Marriot earlier today to ask about their joiner policy and if I get a negative response then fuct it. Ill just spend my ten days at patong. I've read some reviews of hotels in some posts and I'll probably go from there. Thanks again for everyones help.
