The only people who rent them are the guys that are now too fat to drive the big loud motorbikes- tis the only way they can get a a bit of a tingle in their nether regions! There are places along the beach road and at the end near the turn for Kata/Karon that have them - they will probably take your passport.

I certainly wouldn't give them my passport. Let them have a photocopy of it. Tell them you need to have your passport to change money.

I'm not having that Simon! Ya B'stard. Just because my bike has big fat tyres on it, doesn't mean I am big-boned. I used to like you, no, really I did.
I can't take it anymore..................I'm taking the Frog-Flatner out for a spin and I don't really care if I haven't got any petrol.................So there!

I don't think you can hire an "American jeep" in Phuket. You have Suzukis and you have something that looks like an old American jeep... but they are powered (better to say underpowered) by an Isuzu motor. Same same jeepneys in the Philippines.

Was on aboot the throbber choppers not the pretenders to the throne. At least your's looks like a motorbike. 3 abmys gone past in Nanai today. For those about to scrape- we salute you. Just don't knock me down as you tremble past. To upf\date as well as taking the piss there are a few Willys jeep decked out properly floating around at the moment- PM Jeep isprobably the best bet to find out about them. for the spotters a couple of M151 MUTTs as well

i rented one of those jeeps when i 1st came to Ptong to stay for most of a year
just to make a run to the store and stock up on house needs
the steering seemed real loose
also, make sure you know how to drive with the steering wheel on wrong side
i clipped about 4 bikes on my passenger side, which should be my drivers side and had to pay out cash all day
what was suppose to be 700baht ended up costing me 3500k for the day 55555

The 'Throbbers' are a pain in the proverbial. The one thing I have noticed from moving out of the jungle of Kamalalala Hills to the High Street of old Kamalalala town in the fcukin' noise pollution of these noisy b'stards.
Is it a penis envy thing that you have to sit at a red light revving the backside out of it for everyone to hear! I think it sounds OK as they drive along but I don't want to have it rammed in my ears in a 'look at me and my bike' kind of way by shirtless pink lobsters wearing third reich-a-like plastic helmets because there is a bit of an audience at the traffic lights!
A proper Willys Jeep, and there are a few around (left overs from something?) look the part if they have been maintained properly. Loose steering on those is all part of the fun, same with the old series 3 Land Rovers, took a minute or two for it to react to the steering! Got used to it after a while.
I am always wary of what look like new drivers in hire vehicles driving on the left for the first time. That's why I like my slightly bigger bike as I can get away from the newer drivers before they become a danger to me.
Now't wrong with fat lasses either, they need love too!
And the tall ones.................
