Air Asia - Phuket to Bangkok
Has anybody flown with Air Asia? Main question: When flying out from Phuket to Bangkok [Suvarnabhumi] is there an option to have your bags checked onto your final destination e.g London Heathrow. I've done this with Thai Airways. My connecting flight at BKK is quite tight on time and this would save a lot of hassle....

Sorry. You will have to reclaim your bags at BKK and recheck them in to LHR.
Air Asia do not forward baggage onto UK bound flights
I hope you are not too pressed for time, as Air Asia have a habit of being late

Just did a flight up to Bkk (Air Asia) and then connected on an international flight to Taiwan. Now I had no baggage and it took 1.5hrs from gate to gate. Remember you have a fair hike up to the departure level and then check-in, clear immigration, security and get to the international gates. As Dawsey says, Air Asia can be an hour late without blinking as their schedules run unrealistically tight. Maybe rethink your Phuket to BKK flight and take an earlier one, (I did leaving Phuket) as I would rather spend an extra hour of two having piece of mind I won’t miss my international flight.

I agree if it means maybe missing your international connection.
Air Asia do charge for a ticket change though as I found to my cost last year. IIRC its around £30 to change it.

I believe that their baggage limit is only 15kg too, though I will still use them when I visit in August

I was pleasantly surprised Air Asia did not changed me for my extra 2KG last week in BKK... Also they have sorted out the Xpress Boarding in BKK now. The seats at the front of the bus that takes you between terminal and plane are reserved for Xpress boarding people.

Wait till you come back out of Phuket. They check and weigh all baggage. Each agent has their little calculator in hand to show you the overweight charges and collect.
Interesting my flight from BKK to HKT had a gate…however as I found out sitting on the wrong plane going to Krabi that they tend to schedule planes at the same gate/time going to different destinations. Took them 10 minutes to realize I was on the wrong plane and to come and collect me along with a few other passengers.

You know, my 2 cents to anyone who is thinking of using AirAsia or any LCC to connect to an international flight is simply DON'T. Why take the chance for a few extra baht. With a few days on your hands I wouldn't care.

Used them for HKT-KUL and KUL-CRK and been pretty good. Got away with excess weight (over by 5kg+ and no fee charged).
K1 booked on flight in April and they have already SMS'd change in flight times twice which is a bit annoying - as is the need to check in again for even a connecting Air Asia domestic flight.
If you have a critical connection then leave a LOT of time for it.

Gotta say that Air Asia is last resort for me.
Phuket to BKK like Nokair and if travelling internationally always use KL with Malaysian Airlines as BKK is a sh1t of an airport, IMHO.

Singaporeair
Cowboy
Try to avoid Bangkok at all costs.
If you go via Singapaporeair from the UK then you will transit through Singapore and they fly with Silkair to Phuket and back again.
You can check your bags in the UK all the way through and then check them in Phuket all the way back to the UK.
They run like clockwork with smaller queues and Singapore Airport is the best in the world.
You might pay an extra £100 but it is well worth the service and lack of Hassle in Bangkok and Air Asia etc.
I can usually get a return Uk to Phuket via Singapore for about £500.
Regards
Drew

I was shocked in BKK they did not ask for it!! I nearly went to the payment desk before checking in as I knew I was 2kg over and was expecting to pay!
I have no problem paying the charges..... 80THB per KG is not gonna break the bank.
Taking off from BKK we were 45 minutes on the tarmac waiting so landed about 30 mins late in HKT...... But this can happen to all carriers.... 2 weeks ago I was 1.5 hrs on Newark's tarmac flying to Amsterdam with KLM.

I've flown Air Asia about a dozen times and have had good success with them. My fav regional airline is Bangkok Airways but the cost difference can be significant!
