Bangkok Air Phuket -> Samui Passport
gyday,
Do foreigners need to carry their passport with them when flying domestic, more specifically, Phuket to Koh Samui via Bangkok Air?
I might need to send my passport home during my time in thailand
in nz you dont have to show when flying domestic, but i just wanna confirm about Thailand.
cheers

You can fly domestically without your passport but you do need some other positive ID document, not sure what is accepted but I used my Seaman's book to fly internally. Would check on the legality of being in Thailand without your passport though you may find you are breaking the law by not being able to produce it on demand.

You dont need to have your PP when flying domestic but most likely advisable - they will accept photo ID driving license (Thai or foreign) but as Soupy has stated it is an offence to not be able to produce your PP on demand.
Another factor is that most hotels will require it as they are supposed to declare guests to police/immigration. I was with a guy who fly to Pattaya without his passport and the hotel where not happy to check him in as he had no passport.
At very least a photocopy of ID page and page with visa and TM card should be taken with you.

To be in any country without a passport in that country is illegal.
In Thailand it is certainly law that you should carry your passport, but then again, what is law here? I never carry mine.
As for flights, you must carry recognised ID to travel, domestic airlines have an ID check as you pass through to the gates.
It doesn't have to be your passport, but the only thing is use other than that is my Thai Driving License.

you cannot stay in thailand without a passport with 6 months remaining time left on it.you send your passport home and get caught means you will be thrown into an immigration jail, and left there until your embassy can get you a new one and you can come up with the money for the big fine, think again matey!

When traveling domestic a photo copy of your back page and current entry stamp/visa of passport is acceptable... Found this out when sending passport to BKK, was advised to photocopy before sending as proof... also as an expat a 5 year Thai driving license is also accepted as ID...

have since sobered up and realised its not worth the potential trouble, Thailand isnt going anywhere and i cant afford a huge fine and risk going to a Jail. Being a poor student, i hate losing money and forfeitting money, (especially in this case as its my schools fault). ohh its f**kin annoying, ive been looking forward to Thailand since 2004... once again its most likely gonna elude me.

With e tickets they often want your passport just to check the reference number on the ticket. Thai on the other hand willl want to see your credit card (as I found out having left it in Phuket for safe keeping!) If in doubt carry your passport- you'll need it any way when cashing travellers cheques. Again from personal experience a photocopy will not work at the bank. The rest of the time a photocopy tucked in your wallet provides instant id if required , thereby keeping your pport safe whilst on the pop.

so ive said im gonna be studying in Japan this year right,
I'm waiting on a special document from the school ill be attending, i need it before i can apply for the student visa.
apparently, the certificate will arrive just before Im supposed to leave (March 10). Once I get it, it takes at least a week to process the visa.
So if i stayed in NZ and waited for it all, id miss out on 1/2 my thailand trip.
.................................................. ................................
I may however be able to take the certificate with me and apply for the student visa at the Japanese embassay in Bangkok. Though id have to post it in (not sure if they only accept applications in person..?)
thats the story,
