5 Patong Guest Houses

My last day on a 3 and a half week stay in Patong and I'm in my 5th guest house. Thought I would give a quick run down of the accomodations.

It being a last minute trip I didn't have a reservation until the day I left. Summer Breeze was full so I rolled the dice. I was looking for something under 1500 baht with wifi. It turned out the Lawan the first spot was the most expensive at 1250 and the rest being well under that. My favorite place the Adaman Sea was 800 when I left (1000 prior to March 1).

Lawan Boutique Hotel
Forget the Boutique, this was just a guest house. Room was fine. The bed the most comfortable with a pillow top. This is by the dive shop across for Cristines. Excellent location. Never ate at the restaurant down stairs. No security at night, just a locked door. Stairs are steep and narrow. The staff was helpful and nice. I stayed here 2 weeks and would have stayed till the end but they were booked. Gary the American manager was a good guy. Three stars.

Gotha Guesthouse
This is in back of Jungceylon down the road a ways. Wifi in room is about the only positive thing I can say about this dump. But, there was no place to plug the power into. The room had no TV or airconditioner controls and no trash container. Bed was hard. No light to read by. 1000 baht a night. Find somewhere else to stay. No stars

Lak Pong Guest House
These next three guest houses were all across the street from each other in an alley near the Patong Beach Lodge near Cristans. Lak Pong was fine for a night but no wifi. No restaurant. Hard Bed, no reading light, smaller room. Stayed two nights till a room opened up next door. Two stars

Andaman Sea
I'm reluctant to write about this place. It was so good I don't want the secret to get out. Room was the biggest so far. It had an elevator! What a luxury not to have to climb stairs! Suppose to be wifi through out but just seemed to work in the lobby and first floor. Food was fair. What made this place great was the atmosphere in the bar/lobby. There was a bunch of Aussies in who made this their clubhouse. I would come home to find nearly every guest and staff in loud pool tournament. Drinking here from morning till night. It was fun to be there. Owner Dave from America is always ready for a chat. He threw a free BBQ while I was there and does it regularly.
Four Stars (for the fun factor)

T-Terrace
Wifi for a one time 100 baht fee. Largest room yet althought bathroom was tiny. Minibar has 35 baht Singha. Why go to 7/11? That 4 flight stair run with the suitcase was no fun. No food. Overall not a bad place but no personality.
Two and a half stars

Ready to go home and sleep in my own bed!

Thanks for the reviews Pinot, always handy to know of a cheapo guesthouse for the odd trip over the hill of doom into Patong.

Thanks again.

Not to advertise but for clarification there is a security guard that is shared by the Dive Shop and the Gym Fitness Club next door. The locked door downstairs is for added security.

The "narrow and steep" stairs have been nicknamed "Mount Lawan" by a previous guest which I think is a cool analogy and I hope it sticks!!!

Joy is the manager and Gary (me) is the owner by the way. I don't think I resemble her in any fashion unless I'm wearing my red pumps!!! (joke)

Thanks for the honest review, Pinot

Oh yea, this is for The Lawan (forget the Boutique) Hotel

Looks a smart place and a good little site but couldn't find no prices on it.
Guess its a case of supply and demand.

Thanks for the write up Pinot, always handy to have first hand info.
