Chalemporn Guesthouse Patong

Just finished a week staying here and might as well share it around.

Great place. Guest friendly, BIG room, clean and fresh, cool aircond, big bed with fresh crisp linen, good bathroom, free wifi in lobby ( I picked it up in my room on the 4th floor as well though).

Some coin has been spent doing this place up and maintaining it and it is a well run operation with British owner Alistair. I liked the location which is on Soi Banzaan behind the new Jung Celyon shopping centre and about a 10 minute stroll from Bangla Street. If you want a bite to eat during the day then for thai just wander into the Banzaan markets upstairs 2 minutes away or for western 4 minutes stroll to the Jung Celyon.

Guesthouse itself is quiet and has 24 hour manned front desk. ID required to be lodged with front desk for joiners which I like.

Doesnt have - pool or elevator

I found it really good value for money ( cheap ,cheap) and will definately stay there again in the future should I be staying in Pootong. Got a great deal for a weekly rate. You could do a lot worse than this place.

hmmm maybe I shouldnt have done this review if the bloody place is booked out when I go there next time....

Just looked at the web page , 3000 baht for a weeks stay certainly does look good if you are travelling on a budget ...

At least they tell you standard rooms don't have a window. Overall looks okay.

I have booked 15 nights there as of the 3rd of April (the summer breeze was all booked up until the 12th) I got a quote of 7650 for 15 nights...not bad at all....I will give a review 3 days after I arrive in Phuket to give it a chance. If I don't like it there I will move to the summer Breeze on the 12th for the rest of my stay in Phuket.

Rates look pretty good, just concerned about the distance to Bangla and the beach during the day. How much is the motorcycle fare back to the hotel at 3am?

It takes ca 5 min to walk to Bangla Road.
No problem to walk home in night time. Hv stayed in that street many times now.

So got in to the Chalemporn today. These are my first impressions of the place.

1- For the price this is a great place. I do not think you can get a better price/quality ratio anywhere. My room was big, clean away from the noise...I can not complain. The staff is as good as any 4* place and all with a smile. I have stayed in worst places for more money I can tell you this right now.

2- Couple of bad points. I got a room on the 5th floor...sound great for the view and all but there is no lift...I am not in the best of shape (what do you mean ...round is a shape) so 5 floors to climb up and down 4-5-6 times a day...not a good thing. But the staff was helpful on that point they moved me down to the 2nd floor as of tomorrow...thank god for good service. Also the toilet is not separated from the shower...I have seen this in Europe but this is my first time in Thailand...for me not a big deal but for some could be.

There is a 7/11 20 yard away and Bangla road is 5 min away...you need to shop for some stuff the "Carrefour" is the perfect place to buy everything at a good price (3 min walk)...no difference between falag and Thai prices there. That works for me.

Ok got to go...more info in a week or so to see if all this good feeling stays with me after 7 days.

Have a good one.

Nice info, very helpful for me also, still deciding where to stay next time.

At the Patong Merlin, the shower and Toilet were also joint together, bit hard when i was with my brothers, and one of us needed to use the toilet, when another was in the shower. hehe, but it was fine.

Yes the map is wrong. The place is actually 10 kms inland in a swamp infested with mosquitos carrying dengue fever. 7 people went missing last week and still havent been found just trying to cut their way through the verdant jungle surrounding the place so they could get to the 7-11. The staff and owner are Grade A nutcases with no regard for guest happiness or service. The building is about to fall down and you need an armed guard to step outside for fear of being mugged and b*ggered by ladyboys. Done even think about bring a joiner back cause the salvation army stalwarts that hang outside the entrance will damm you into eternity and turn your LBFM into a God fearing devout Christian in the blink of eye.

DONT stay there ! Tell all your friends, relatives and aquaintances too !!

Over 10 days in, this is what I think

Hi guys,

I have now been staying at the Chalremporn guest house for over 10 days and can now give a more experienced review on this place.

Ok for the price this place is great.
1-This place is clean. The rooms are made up and cleaned every day and the rest of the hotel is also well taken care of. In the 10/11 days I have been here, no bugs in the room at all, for Thailand that is saying something.
2-The staff is very good. They are so helpful and nice, now in the LOS that is not unusual but they really want to help you if they can. One side note nothing if perfect..(see next point)
3-Free Internet, that’s cool but it is not stable, they are having problems with their wireless rooter so sometimes it is not available but a simple reboot of the rooter usually fixes that. The one instance that I was disappointed in the staff was the time the internet was down so I called down to advise them and the girl at the reception said she could not help me. I tried to explain what had to be done to fix the problem but she said I had to wait until tomorrow. I had to go down to the lobby go next door to the “Little Buda” guest house where the router is (it’s owned by the same guy) and when I told the guy at the reception he fixed it right away. I tough was it for her to do that?
4-Close enough to everything. I went shopping at the “Carrefour” all the time it’s 3 min away with good prices, 7/11 20 yards away open 24h, laundry place across the street, really cheap (50 bath for 1 KG) and ready the next day. Bangla road is about 7 min away and the beach 10 min. You know what I walked it almost every day to go to MTB and it’s not a problem at all.
5-Big beds in the room and I thought it was very confertable

Some negative points.
1-No lift (elevator for us North Americans). I was lucky and got moved to the 2nd floor on my second day but if you are on the 5th floor and well a bit drunk coming back from MTB. God help you. So when booking make sure that you ask for a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor max.
2-The internet does not work over the 3rd floor. So if you have a lap top you need to go down to the lobby to use it. A couple of bucks invested in equipment and that could be fixed????
3-The food menu is limited and honestly apart from the breakfast I did not eat there at all it was not appealing to me. The breakfast was ok for the price I would recommend it.
4-The bathroom is not separated from the toilet. I did not mind it too much just make sure the toilet paper is not in the direction of the water spray. Some will mind so it’s good to know.

So all and all a good place to stay at if you are on a budget like me. No luxury here but it’s clean with a nice staff, close to pretty much everything, girl friendly and free internet. I am very happy of my choice to stay here and next time I am back I will stay here again.

Take it easy.

Thanks for the information! It certainly seems to be good value! I know the feeling about the stairs after a few drinks! I had that same problem when I stayed on the top floor of the Summer Breeze!

Good report.

I might end up giving this place a go, and probably taking the last room available for the dates when Hagler tries to book it again for his next trip 555555555555555

already booked for June and September. Gotta be quick these days if you want a good deal.

But dont worry mate I have told em to keep that "special " room by the leech drain for ya. You know the one. Its got those tasteful posters of the ladyboy BJ contest on the walls and the orange shag pile carpet on the floor. You'll LURVE it !!

Thanks for the report Champs.

I was up that way in March and there seem to quite a few new places on Soin Banzaan that looked spotless from the outside and had some pretty good rates...Ferb Guesthouse, Siam Hotel are on the same street

As for the toilet and shower together, this is pretty much the norm in the places I've stayed in...is there even a shower curtain ?

just spent 2 weeks at this place, great spot for the money, only downside for me was the cleaner, who i tipped 100b first day and gave her 40b another day to which she turned up her nose at saying "2 more? " she asked for tip every day which was annoying, i always tip the cleaners but hate it when they ask for tip, i plan on staying here next time and will probably say il tip you at the end of my stay.
