Turnaround times in Suvarnabhumi

Hey guys,

Heading to LOS in April and am facing a small quandry... (apologies if this has been asked for and answered elsewhere here, I did search).
My flight comes in from LHR at 15:30 Bangkok time and I am intending on heading to Phuket asap (ie no stayover in Bangkok).
I have checked a few of the airlines and seen a decent price with Air Asia to get me out at 8pm or so. I wanted to make sure that I would be leaving enough time to do a full turn around in Suvarnabhumi.
Or should I just pitch up and try and get the next available flight out to Phuket and book and pay at the airport. I am concerned as there doesn't appear to be too many flights later than 6pm. What about prices at the desks? Are they less than the online sites?

Hope someone can help!
Thx

Hi barnyman

Welcome to the forum

If you are arriving at BKK at 15 30, then a flight out with Air Asia at 8pm is plenty of time.

I honestly don't know if any "offers" that appear on their website are given at the booking booth at the airport. Be aware that Air Asia has a 15kg limit, although if you are overweight its only 80baht a kg extra.

If you are arriving around Songkran (13th - 15th Apr), the flights tend to be fully booked.

You have several options. 2hrs is enough time to do a turn around in BKK...Immigration/Check into next flight/To your gate. Bangkok airways has a flight at 530pm (not much more $ then Air Asia)and Thai has a flight at 630pm as well as the Air Asia flight you mentioned at 8pm.

Welcome to the Board.

Two hours could be cutting it very fine if his inbound flight gets delayed though.
The Thai flight at 6 30pm is a definate though.
Thai has got very expensive in comparison to the others now. More choice of flights though and depends how quick the OP wants to get to Phuket.
An 8pm flight should see him in Patong by 11 - 11 .30pm

2 hours is plenty if all goes according to schedule.
You should schedule 1 hour to get from the plane, clear immigration, retrieve luggage, and exit through customs. Often it is faster.
You should be prepared to check-in an hour before the next flight.

The 6:30PM departure on Thai may be a great option for 2 reasons.
1. It leaves you three hours, which should b more than enough.
2. With the right paperwork at your check-in in London, you may be able to check you luggage through to Phuket and obtain your onward boarding pass plane-side and clear customs in Phuket. If the airline you fly with is a member of Star Alliance you may be able to get your boarding pass for Bangkok to Phuket in London.

Welcome to the board!

If you are going to take the 6:20pm(TG223) flight on Thai I would book in advance to be on the safe side. I tried to book the Thai flight to Phuket before the 6:20pm flight back in December for April 7th and it was already full. Business class was already full on the 6:20pm flight 7 April back in December also. Seemed like I was lucky to get the flight I did back in December.

Be careful on the turnaround times. You will have to clear customs in Bangkok you will not be able to clear in Phuket as you will be travelling on a domestic flight from BKK to Phuket. Why not buy a full fare thai flight to Phuket. Then you can change to an earlier or later flight if they are available.

Hey guys!
Thanks for the welcome, much appreciated.
All info has been taken on board and I think that we are going to get the Air Asia flight a bit later, leaves some time for delays etc and we will be under no pressure to get things done, allows time for a bit of food, stretching the legs etc.
Hope to maybe see some of you folks in the MTB for a wee glass or two.

Thx
